howiedo1n
What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome? Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when tendons or ligaments in the wrist become enlarged, often from inflammation, after being aggravated. The narrowed tunnel of bones and ligaments in the wrist pinches the nerves that reach the fingers and the muscles at the base of the thumb. The first symptoms usually appear at night. Symptoms range from a burning, tingling numbness in the fingers, especially the thumb and the index and middle fingers, to difficulty gripping or making a fist, to dropping things. Some cases of carpal tunnel syndrome are due to work-related cumulative trauma of the wrist. Diseases or conditions that predispose to the development of carpal tunnel syndrome include pregnancy, diabetes, and obesity. Is there any treatment? Carpal tunnel syndrome is treated by immobilizing the wrist in a splint to minimize or prevent pressure on the nerves. If that fails, patients are sometimes given anti-inflammatory drugs or injections of cortisone in the wrist to reduce the swelling. There is also a surgical procedure in which doctors can open the wrist and cut the ligament at the bottom of the wrist to relieve the pressure. However, only a small percentage of patients require surgery.

Thrillho
Had to go with the PC, the mouse i have at work kills me. The only controler i ever had that gave me problems was the Dreamcast Controller, that too used to kill me wrists.
ChoiceStriker
I'd better knock on wood before and after saying this, but I'm lucky never to have had symptoms of carpal tunnel, and I'm on the computer at least eight hours a day. The closest I've come is playing a couple of games that required you to contort your hands into strange positions. The first one that comes to mind is Metroid Prime, because charging up the beam meant pulling your right thumb way back to press and hold the A button. Not usually a problem, but fighting Metroid Prime for 20 minutes really made me achey.
Mark E
Nada. I've gamed for nearly twenty years now and I can safely say that I have no problems with my wrists period. (insert dirty joke here) And that's surprising, given how hardcore I was during my more youthful and carefree times.
JTello
Ok, so I've never had real carpel tunnel,... but the most painful gaming experiences in no particular order,... 1. Dreamcast controller,.... I liked it mostly,... except the part where the engineers assumed most peoples arms extend straight out of thier chests. 2. More than 20 minutes with the pointy cornered D-pad of the Nes controller. :? 3. Intense three hour long NHL sessions with the Genesis controller,...spin, pass, shoot, check, pass, check, spin, shoot,...blister! 4. Back in the day, 1985, Decathalon on the PC, two button mash running! Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, spacebar,..... perfect landing, ..28/ft-10/in,... It's a New World Record! howiedo1n
Its not like I have seen a doctor about it. Or have had it diagnosed as such. I do have very similar symptoms as of late though and thought this would make for an interesting/funny poll.

foogledricks
I have Carpal Tunnel bad. It is depressing. I need a solution soon or i'll have to change careers. This is also a major reason why I switched from PC to Xbox completely for all games. I'm not even going to play Half-life 2 on the PC because of this. adamsappel
I just started experiencing this during a huge graphics project. I work on a laptop, and using the touchpad for so long made my right thumb and wrist hurt like hell. The 2-3 hours of gaming each day doesn't help, either. Beer Monkey
I'm 36, and I've had CTS for 15 years. I can sometimes go months without flareups, and most weeks I am fine. When I'm working a lot, it can get really bad. It does force me to curtail my gaming sometimes.
