ChoiceStriker
I'd completely forgotten about this because I knew I was going to be vacationing in Florida at the time of the performance. If I hadn't made those plans months in advance, I would have given just about anything to have been there at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. I'm an enormous fan of Uematsu's, as I'm sure many here are. I sure hope he makes another appearance in the U.S. soon, because it's painful knowing you've missed something you'd like to see more than just about anything else imaginable. The music, the venue, the appearances - It sounds like it was just incredible. IGN's writeup of the event: Dear Friends: Music From Final Fantasy And the set list: Liberi Fatali - FF VIII Zanarkand - FF X Terra's Theme - FF VI Theme of Love - FF IV Dear Friends - FF V Vamo' Alla Flamenco - FF IX Love Grows - FF VIII Aeris's Theme - FF VII Not Alone - FF IX Ronfaure - FF XI Prelude Chocobo Theme Unnamed theme from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Original Final Fantasy Theme One-Winged Angel - FF VII I don't suppose anyone was lucky enough to have actually been in attendance? ChoiceStriker
There's also an interesting write-up of the event in the July issue of Game Informer with some very nice photos of the orchestra, the concert hall, and Mr. Uematsu, Mr. Sakaguchi and Mr. Amano present at the concert. Just thought I'd share!
ChoiceStriker
I'm resurrecting this thread (even though it got no response last year ) because the show will be making a North American tour this year. The only two dates announced so far are the following: Chicago, Illinois Rosemont Theatre, February 19, 2005 http://www.square-enix.com/uematsu/concert/chicago-2_19_2005.html San Francisco, California Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium, March 7, 2005 http://www.square-enix.com/uematsu/concert/sanfran-3_7_2005.html Seats at both shows appear to be $125, $65, and $45. I found the following information about the Chicago show, but these seats are already sold out: VIP ($125) Seats include a meet & greet with Nobuo Uematsu following the performance. I was hoping to make it to the San Francisco concert, but my girlfriend talked me out of spending the money yet in case they come closer. I doubt that Kansas City will see a show any closer than Chicago, but I sure hope she's right. I WILL see this at some point this year; just have to keep my fingers crossed. Romier S
Thread title changed as requested. I would be most interested in hearing this concert. If the tour actually moves to my area, I would more than likely drag my wife along. Is there an eventual CD release of this happening? Eldorado
The Cincinnati-Chicago trek wouldn't be so bad. Pretty short actually. But I think I'm on call that week. Sean
ChoiceStriker
Thanks for changing the title, Romier. Is there an eventual CD release of this happening? I'd say there is a good chance of it, but I think it's more likely that it would be a recording of one of the performances from the Japanese tour, or the Los Angeles date. In related news, is anybody here aware of The Black Mages? Uematsu has an excellent rock / speed metal band that covers Final Fantasy songs; he plays keyboards. They've released two CDs; both are phenomenal. If you've heard the F-Zero Guitar Arranges or Konami's "Battle the Best" CDs and liked them, I feel completely confident recommending the Black Mages. dogbert
Just got a pair of tickets for the FW concert. The Bass Hall is a great concert hall. My wife will find this incredibly dorky but she's also a classical music fan & loves the FW Symphony & the Bass Hall so hopefully that'll outweight the dork factor
ChoiceStriker
Great, Brian, I'm glad to hear someone here benefitted from my posting this. Please give us a full report after the show!! I would love to go to one of these, but I'm going to be out of the country for all but the Hartford and LA shows, and my semester doesn't end until May 20th, so it's a no-go all around! Doh! Now I'm really wishing I could have caught that Chicago show in February.
dogbert
Yeah, thanks for posting the info - I wouldn't have gone looking for it, and it just so happens to be payday and tax return day so I can splurge on it. Rose actually liked the sound of it when I mentioned it to her on the phone there.
ChoiceStriker
Awesome. I'm sure she'll have a good time. I don't see how anybody into classical music could NOT like Uematsu's stuff. I was just thinking - how's this for irony: I've often thought about how cool it would be to see one of these performances in Japan. Now, I'll actually be in Japan, while the entire North American tour happens back home!
ChoiceStriker
I just got this in my inbox - good news for those of us who don't want to pay $30 for imports but also don't want to buy knock-off copies like EverAnime. SQUARE ENIX LAUNCHES FINAL FANTASY? SOUNDTRACKS ON ITUNES? Square Enix announced today the availability of sixteen FINAL FANTASY soundtracks on the iTunes Music Store. This is the first time any of the soundtracks from the acclaimed videogame series will be sold in the United States, and the first time original game soundtracks will be available on the iTunes Music Store. The dedicated FINAL FANTASY page on the iTunes Music Store will feature music from FINAL FANTASY I through XI, Music from Dear Friends, and two Black Mages albums. For more information visit http://na.square-enix.com/music/tunes/ Romier, I thought you might be interested in this too, since you'd asked whether there would be a CD release of the Dear Friends concert a while ago. And to anybody who hasn't heard them yet, check out the Black Mages CDs - they are just incredible.
