Derrik Draven
I had pretty high hopes for this game. Graphics looked damn sweet and, the car chases, with those realistic physics, were right up my alley. Then, as the latest builds were coming in, I've been reading that it's average or, not quite what was expected. Well...guys on TeamXbox forums are all giving it a so-so rating. I haven't read one single early review, yet, that said it was definitely worth getting. Any of you guys pick this up yet? What do you think? There's no way I'm buying this at this point. It's moved to rental territory for me. If it's a fun rental, I'll buy it. Seems kinda sad, really. After all these years in developement, (3,right?) it turns out to be just a standard car game. Cyberwoo
I certainly wasn't expecting much out of this game. I know the graphics are nice and the crashes and damage model is good. Other than that I see problems with the gameplay (repetitive) and the on foot portion I'm almost certain will suck (just as with the GTA games). Camp
ther than that I see problems with the gameplay (repetitive) How can you tell a game suffers from repetitive play before you've even played it? It's one thing to diss the graphics from a screen shot but another entirely to make a judgement call on something you can't possibly know squat about. I was speculating based on previous games in the series. I guess I should have had a question mark at the end of the word repetitive. JohnEBGood
There was a big feature on Driv3r on Yahoo last week. I'll attach the link. I'm looking forward to it. Mine should come tomorrow, which is nice. The new TV commericals also look cool. link to Yahoo stuff
Chris The Rock
According to http://www.gamerankings.com, a couple of UK sites gave it a 90/100 rating.
Romier S
Gamespot has thier review up.... http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/action/driver3/review.html Whats the word? Ouch!
Romier S
IGN feels the same..... http://ps2.ign.com/articles/525/525181p1.html Ouch X 2.
Derrik Draven
Yep, the reviews are mirroring what people are saying in the forums. It doesn't matter much. Atari published Enter the Matrix, didn't they? It sold lots. Rented it and thought it sucked...lots! They'll still make thier money.
JTello
-I'm way too tired at this point to start it, but there is definately material here for a spinoff thread something along the lines of, "What the F#@* happened to (fill in the blank) game? -I vividly remember a good amount of positive (see hopeful,.. I guess) press for the potential of Driver 3. Somewhere in, oh say the last 5 or 6 months this Driver game took a serious detour into a bad section of town and got mugged. I'm sure there are a good number of other titles whose potential vanished so quickly it left you perplexed? -One title that comes to mind, albiet a more slow and painful demise, is Duke Nuke'em Forever. If they released a mediocre version of DNF years ago they would have still sold a ton of copies of that game,... but it's here-to-fore, just another piece od vaporware, whose lost potential is really perplexing. -Crap, I didn't think I had it in me,... I just created an intro to a spinoff thread. Does anyone wany to spin it off for me, I'm going to bed now. Good night all! Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Failsafe
Wow. At least I can safely avoid this one. Hey, do they still have that replay mode where you can choose your own camera angles and stuff? I remember that from Driver which was a cool feature. iainl
Please, pretty please let there be a demo soon. I really want to believe that the reviews aren't going to agree with me, because they often don't at those two places. But I'm not going to bet ?30 that they're wrong right now. iainl
Well, I've done a fair bit more reading and its not looking that good. Pop-up, variable framerate and handling are the three main complaints. Mind you, at least the first two and possibly all three would be fixed with the PC release. This is getting a massive drubbing in some places, though, so I'm going to wait a month or two for the ineviatable price reductions. Uploading 'director mode' movies to XBox Live is too tempting to pass this by totally.
Angry the Clown
And to think, over here at least, they have the audacity to put it out with what they deem a 'premuium price' making it ?5 more than the average game. Are they pulling the same stunt in the US and Canada? I expect it to be number one in the UK game charts next week. Daniel
dogbert
Are they pulling the same stunt in the US and Canada? Of course not. BTW, cool pic of the UK 'press pack' that reviewers got for Driver3.
bickle
Lol, that's awesome! :lmfao: So far it's a boring, boring, game. If it gets better later on, I probably will never find out.
JohnEBGood
I got the game yesterday and played it last night. i thought it was pretty fun. The on foot stuff ain't the best in the world, but the driving aspects are really cool. I drove around for forever on Take a Ride last night having a blast. Anyways, I'll be interested to hear what y'all say when you play the game.
Camp
I find it funny that a game titled "Driver" feels like you're driving on ice. The fact that they didn't bother to tighten up the driving feel is enough for me to label this one as junk.
Derrik Draven
What's the best site to watch the sales on this game to see if Driv3r is officially a dud?
Camp
Wall street. Watch the stock value of Reflections & Atari fall (assuming they're both public, of course).
dogbert
Wall street. Watch the stock value of Reflections & Atari fall (assuming they're both public, of course). Reflections is wholly owned by Atari. Atari is publicly traded though, with Infogrames owning around 58%.
Romier S
What's the best site to watch the sales on this game to see if Driv3r is officially a dud? From what I'm hearing, in the UK at least, its not.
JohnEBGood
I'm not sure where to look, but my brother did tell me that it was in the top 10 for both PS2 and Xbox. I have no way of backing that up though.
Angry the Clown
From what I'm hearing, in the UK at least, its not. 'Tis sadly true. Just one retailer here in the UK, Game, has been selling it in advance for well over a week, and this has already allowed Driver 3 to reach number six in the all formats chart here before it has even had its official release. The fun thing with Game chain of stores however, and I know many to be exploiting this with Driver, is that they offer a five day full return policy. If you don't like the game and bring it back on time, you'll get the chance to swap it for a new game of the customer's choice instead. The common phrase I am hearing from those exploiting the Game store offer is "f**k this, I'm swapping it for Full Spectrum Warrior come Friday" Daniel
