DataTox
Hey gang, not sure if many of you are following the developments in the oft-delayed Superman flick from WB, but it appears that McG is out and a new director has been found. Click on me for fanboy Kryptonite Now, I am a fan of well-made action fare as much as the next person, but there hasn't been a single film that this guy has made that I have liked since (and prior to) The Rock. From what I have read in terms of script details and now this "choice" of a director makes me really concerned about how much the mythology of this character is going to be destroyed. From what appears to be, at first glance, a host of smart choices with the new Batman film, I continue to wonder how this thing keeps getting kicked around and retooled. FLYING SE7EN
So I guess the title of the movie will be "The Death of Superman"....
iainl
Well, they've been courting Bay for years now, so I'm not that surprised, really. Frankly, "Superman" just appears so far to be a very good way of getting directors, producers and screenwriters to waste months if not years of their careers on something that will never happen. So, if you hate Bay that much, its got to be a good thing
boogieman
Guess I'm in the minority, cause I really enjoy Bay's movies. That being said, I don't think he's right for a Superman movie.

Angry the Clown
I've never been sure if a new Superman film is even worth doing. I am fond of the initial origins of Superman, but it never really stood out as a film franchise to me as the majority of his foes held no appeal to me whatsoever. With almost a decade now of trying and failing I'd have thought Warner could take a hint that it may not be such a good idea... They'd probably have more success doing a film extension on Smallville rather than confusing the public in having the television series as it is, then a film that restarts the back story in its own right exist alongside it. Finally attaching Bay to the project seems to be one of the last ingredients to the cauldron of bad ideas... Frankly, "Superman" just appears so far to be a very good way of getting directors, producers and screenwriters to waste months if not years of their careers on something that will never happen. So, if you hate Bay that much, its got to be a good thing Unless Bay's deal is Like Tim Burton's in that it would see him getting his full director's fee whether the movie actually gets made or not... While I don't think he is the best choice for director - he's got to be better then freaking' McG!!! Don't think this will be made anytime soon... Camp
Don't think this will be made anytime soon... I hope not. The only way it could get worse is if they cast Stephen Hawking as Superman.
Starhawk
Count me in for never ever wanting to see either McG or Michael Bay direct a Superman movie. I actually like McG's style in the first Charlies Angels, but I DO NOT want to see that influence in a Superman flick. I hate about everything Bay touches, except for maybe The Rock. iainl
I actually kind of like Michael Bay at times. The Rock shows what he can do if someone stops the script from being too mushy, and there are bits of Bad Boys 2 (basically whenever Martin Lawrence isn't being an idiot) that really work so I think he's got it in him to make another good film. I just don't care for a film Superman that much; I care far more about Chloe's fate in the TV series, to be honest. But Jon Peters (he of Batman & Robin blame) doesn't want to sully himself with a Smallville continuity connection to that little TV screen, and is far too busy trying to foist a black costume on everyone. edit - actually, thinking about it, the thing everyone is so down on Bay for, his BA Advert-style crowds staring at the sky in nervous wonder while Zimmer-acolytes go overboard on the soundtrack, is exactly what the Truth, Justice and the American Way fervour of everyone's favorite Kryptonian (unless you fancy Supergirl, you pervs) calls for. DataScion
Michael Bay has his momnets, but I really think he is the wrong choice for this movie. Then agaim, almost everything you hear about this movie from casting rumors to script rumors makes me cringe. If they screw this up it will be wrong on so many levels. I think the thing that concerns me the most is the slap in the face a truly ill-conceived Superman film would be to Christopher Reeve. Just my personal opinion, of course. JoeyN
When a spidey movie was announced the first person I thought of to play Peter was Tobey McGuire, The first person i thought of for the new batman was Christian Bale. Both happened. However i cant think of someone who comes right to to mind for Superman Who do you guys want to play Clark Kent? capt

JFo
More Superman movie news from Ain't It Cool News. Let's just say that the team behind a certain comic book series about mutants is now on board! I promise you all, if this turns out to be true, the movie may actually turn out to be all right. In all the years I've been reading about the prodcution of this film, this is probably the first bit of good news ever written for it. We'll just have to see if it turns out to be true. JoeyN
Id Rather that team get to work on X3 first. I can live without superman films. Sorry just have never been a big superman fan capt
Angry the Clown
I'll trust this AICN story when I read the same report it in the trades. Great if true, but I agree they should sort X Men 3 before moving on to Superman, and I've no doubt Fox will actually insist this be the case before letting those guys go to Warner. Angry the Clown
Amazing, Aint it Cool got their facts right. Sure enough Singer is talking all about it in the trades today. No word on what this means for his involvement in X Men 3 though. Dan
DataTox
The nice news about this is that they have decided to scrap everything that has come before and start from scratch. I'm a big fan of Singer and have faith that he can bring this troubled franchise back on track. However, like Joey said, I would much rather they work on Xmen 3 before anything Superman. Angry the Clown
all I can say is that there better not be a giant spider in the third act :green: Well from the sounds of things, the chief executives at the studio have removed John Peters from the project entirely. Only fair given a) he's tried numerous times over the past ten years to produce a new Superman film, and failed miserably each time costing Warner millions of dollars, and .........he's a moron. Dan
iainl
Not forgetting C-Z..... He's a moron. You really can't emphasise that point enough.
kelley
I guess we will have to wait even longer for Singer to ever do his remake of Logan's Run.
exile
Actually Kelley, I heard another director is taking that project
