Guest Bryan
Xbox Troubleshooting More Info Bob, Try powering down and unplugging your modem for a minute or so, then start it back up and try again.
Robot Monkey
Are you using a regular ethernet cable? Because, IIRC, those Xbox SystemLink cables are actually crossovers and won't work the same as regular ones. -j
JFo
Having just chatted with Bobbio on ICQ, he said that he is using a crossover cable between the modem and the hub I gave him last weekend. Does that sound like the problem to you guys?
Calvin
That it does. If he wants to run a home network & keep his computer internet up & running, he's gonna need a router & some regular ethernet cable. The hub & crossover cables are for doing LAN stuff only. Hope that helps.
JFo
If a hub doesn't allow you to connect multiple devices to the Internet, then I fear that I may have mislabled what I gave him. Before I went wireless, I used this same "hub" to connect my Xbox, PC, and ReplayTV to the Internet, leading me to believe that I actually did give him a router. So all he needs now is a few ethernet cables and we're in business. :tu:
Calvin
Yeah, i learned the hard way that a hub & a router are two different things
Graeme
The hub will probably work fine if you get more than 1 IP address from your provider, but it should be a regular ethernet cable, not a crossover.

Calvin
Bobbio, If you have gotten regular ethernet cable, take your cable modem & unplug it for like five minutes. Then hook up the Xbox directly to the cable modem & then plug back in the modem. Try & let the Xbox auto-connect & you should be fine! You really need the ethernet cable,though... Graeme
Then hook up the Xbox directly to the cable modem & then plug back in the modem. Going straight from the modem to the XBox would most likely require a crossover cable though

Guest Bryan
Mine does not need a crossover. Regular ethernet all the way.
