Build your own robot

A friend of mine sent me this link. It looks like a store selling a robot that you can put together yourself, but the really amazing thing is the video demonstration about halfway down the page. A few times I wondered if it was animated somehow...really incredible movements and balance.

I'm trying to figure out how much it costs...looks like 1.4 million won - which comes out to $1260!

Here's a pic from the site:

Very very cool, looks like alot of geeky robot goodness for not a lot of money.

I agree that it kicks arse, but what kind of tax bracket are you in that 1200 bucks isn't a lot ot money? :wtf:

Money is always relative, especially when talking about a passion. :tu: Spending 15% of my income on a boat seems completely logical, but spending 5% on a car seems off the wall. :wtf: It's all about priorities. :D

Exactly. There are people on the Aibo forum I go to who have 15 or more of the things running around. The 1 I have seems extravagant to me. OTOH, dropping 20 a foot for silver speaker cable seemed reasonable to me on Friday.

I think it's awesome that you have an Aibo. I've seen them demonstrated at the Sony store here and it was very cool. In a way, it might be a good investment because they may very well become a hot collectors items in 20 years or so.

Only if they stopped making them, which I doubt they would.

But yeah, Aibos are very neat. I still prefer a real dog, thogh. ;)

Don't they update the Aibo though? I know there are at least 2 versions that look very different. As long as they continue to update it, there will be a distinction between them, which is all that's needed for collector-dom. Of course it's not a given, but I have a hunch that they will be looked back upon in fond and quaint terms in the future...the good old days of home robotics.
