dogbert
So I'm off work for a week & a half and my wife's not. There's a number of films I've missed in the past couple of months due to work that I'd like to catch up on, but I'm not a big fan of going to the cinema alone. So what's your opinion on a solo bloke at a matinee showing of an older film? We're not sad scary geek on the opening night of Spider-Man 2, we're talking midday or 1pm showings of films that have been out a few weeks. I'll have a small popcorn, a medium drink & me. Robot Monkey
Although I don't do it, I have reasonably well-adjusted friends who do, so knock yourself out! I voted for 3. Evening showings does seem a little creepy, but now that I think about it, who cares? You're an adult, married and have a job. Go when you want. -j
kelley
Around here during the daytime most of the people at the cinemas seem to be there all by their lonesome.
Chris F
I voted for DVD. 10-12 bucks for a movie, where there are people talking, babies crying, cell phones ringing, people kicking my chair... Fuck that. 20 bucks for the DVD in the comfort of my own home. Only certain movies will I go see. This summer I've only seen: Spider-Man 2 I, Robot Before then the only movie I saw in theaters was Return of the King. The last movie I'll see in theaters this summer will probably be Alien vs. Predator.
blackcalx
I'm certainly not above going to a movie alone. I used to catch a movie in the afternoons between school and work, but I've also seen quite a few evening shows by my lonesome. I'm content to be alone, though I enjoy having my wife and daughter around just as much.
Failsafe
Well, I don't go alone often (maybe once every year or two). Evening, afternoon whatever. Kill Bill Vol. 2 was the last one I saw opening night (couldn't wait!) without anyone else. Going with friends though is usually the way I see movies, but I will make exceptions. AnthonyVolpe
Never saw a movie alone in a theatre. Doesn't seem right.
Beer Monkey
If there's something I really want to see without waiting, and my spouse and friends aren't interested or available, I'll definitely go by myself. I'm certainly secure enough to know that there isn't anything wrong with me, and I don't care what anybody else thinks at the sight of me going alone. If they think less of me, they are the ones who need help. I also have occasionally gone to concerts (in clubs) alone (maybe once every year or two). Why should I deprive myself of seeing something I enjoy just because none of my friends are interested or available that night?

You watch movies at home by yourself...you rent/buy movies by yourself. What's the difference? -Dean-
Calvin
Going to the movies alone doesn't bother me. There are some films that Leslie refuses to see, & my tastes aren't always the same as my friends'. Most of the time I can wait for a DVD release - but I have & will continue to go to the cinema by myself on certain occasions.
adamsappel
For a time, I was unemployed in the months before my daughter was born, so I saw an early movie nearly every day. Except for sometimes a few senior citizens, the theater was mostly empty. I loved it. It was much cheaper, especially since I didn't have to buy my wife popcorn and soda. A theater near me also shows "mommy movies," where it's okay to bring babies-in-arms. Sadly, those days are behind me and I haven't seen a movie in a theater in over a year. Josh
I rather prefer it, actually. Less hassle, and it usually means I have the day off with no one else around, a rarity in my life that is meant to be relished and enjoyed with cheesy action flicks, videogames, and pr0n. Orpheus
Went to things all the time alone for most of the last 3 years. Movies are no big deal, the only thing ever uncomfortable was going out to dinner alone at someplace nice. But, I like good food, and just because I was a single lonely geek didn't mean I shouldn't. Whooter
I go to the movies by myself all the time. Ususally during the day or the last show of the evening. I find that if I go to the "kids" movies, like "Finding Nemo" and sit in the last row wearing a trench coat, that people won't sit near me with their kids. :tu:

Starhawk
I go alone lots of times, but most people I know think its sad and crazy (mostly from chicks). I honestly could care less. Im there to watch a damn movie.
Guest Bryan
I go to movies like Dawn of the Dead, House of 1,000 Corpses, etc. by myself because I don't know anyone else who wants to see them. I usually go to that type of flick on a Friday afternoon around 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. I would rather skip a meal than go to a restaurant by myself. I would feel like everyone there was watching me. Camp
I see films by myself all the time. Unless my GF wants to see the film I pretty much have to go by myself.
tiac
I go by myself all the time too, I kind of favor it to going with others. I'm just not a people person. Can't go on opening nights because of the crowds.
JoeyN
I liked to go to the movies alone. Dont have to have people keep trying to talk to me during the film about stuff that has nothing to do with the movie at all capt
Mark E
I don't do it a lot, but I will. I see no problem with it, hell, there is no problem with it . My girlfriend and I are pretty in-synch for films, but certain movies she won't want to see and generally speaking I'm happy to respect that by going by myself. No big for me either way. I don't thrive on human contact, merely accept it, so if I have to spend time by myself I don't give a damn.
Kain rising
Originally posted by Robot Monkey@Jul 22 2004, 03:47 PM And I also hate, hate, hate eating in nice restaurants alone. I'll go to the movies by myself if it's something I really want to see (though I prefer to try and find someone who's interested to go with me), but I completely agree with the resturant thing. I will almost never eat out anywhere (anything from a nice sit down place to even drive-thru fast food) by myself. I'll always go home and make something. (The only exception being long trips on the road.)
