PoisonJam
Some more details on the respec, posted by Poz (one of Cryptic's developers) on the official CoH forums: Respec: The strat guide is outdated. You will not be able to change your archetype, primary, or secondary power sets. You will be able to change which powers you own in those sets, all of your power pool choices, and your enhancement slot placement. You will be able to replace all the enhancements you currently have, and cash out ones that don't fit or you don't want. Sounds good to me. I like that you can't change your AT or your powersets, as this prevents people from exploiting the current "overpowered" build (like those unscrupulous burn tankers ) to powerlevel up to 32 or whatever, and then switching to a fire controller to get imps or something. I also love that you can cash out your enhancements instead of scrapping them entirely. :tu:

blackcalx
With Brandon's help I was able to get Nausicaa up to 18. There were so many powers to pick from that I was quite stumped for a bit. -Do I take Super Speed which would stack with Super Jump and make travel pure pleasure? -Do I take Aim and make sure that I never miss a Fireball attack again? -Do I take buildup and gain the ability to solo yellows? -What about the rest of the fire control powers like Fire Sword Circle? -What about Health, which would put me in line for Stamina? In the end I went for Buildup. Not only will it help me solo higher groups but it will make me more of an asset to a team. So many power choices, however, makes me itch to get Nauiscaa up in levels and use them all.
PoisonJam
I think build up was the right choice there. The quicker you can kill things, the quicker you can get the exp necessary to get the rest of the powers. :tu: I know what you mean about wanting to experience all of those powers, too. Tankers may not have a lot to look forward to once they get past level 26 or so, but blasters and scrappers sure do!
PoisonJam
I just got finished watching those videos you linked to, Scott. Absolutely brilliant!!! I may have laughed harder at the Frog Prince than I have ever laughed at any online movie, including the Star Wars Kid. :tu:

The only other competing though near the end was "I can kill more by getting to the mobs faster", which very nearly lead me to Super Speed. MastaRedSnappa
I got my fire/fire blaster, Napalm King, to level 18 tonight and went through the same thing... which power to choose? With Aim, I can make sure my opening salvo hits its target every time. With Blaze, I can kill things quicker with a single-target big nuke. With Stealth, I can position myself perfectly for the optimal firebreath cone angle and gain some much-needed defense. With Swift, I can run a little faster and get one of the pre-requisites for Stamina. I copied my character to the test server before I choose my power and tried out all the different powers I had in mind (except Swift which I didn't feel I needed to test). Blaze was very high damage (especially with Build Up), even unslotted. Its range is obscenely short almost to the point of it being a melee attack. I'm kind of turned off by Blaze right now although I'm sure I'll pick it up at some point. I'm thinking I'll get Blazing Bolt before Blaze now. Stealth was cool (except for the annoying sound!). I will definitely pick this up later (probably after I get Swift to offset Stealth's movement penalty). I ended up choosing Aim, because with Hasten and Build Up, I could either alternate opening every fight with Build Up or Aim (usually I was waiting for Build Up to recharge, even with Hasten going) or for really tough groups, I could use Aim AND Build Up for maximum damage and accuracy. I couldn't be happier (well, if I could only take back getting Combustion). Hasten + Aim + Build Up + 6-slotted Firebreath + 6-slotted Fireball = mass carnage Maybe now I'll finally be able to see Dr. Vahzilok's health bar move a sliver. :green: As far as the re-spec goes, I wonder if there will be limitations (besides the aforementioned no AT/power-set switching). For example, I want to re-spec Combustion for another power. At level 4, when I selected Combustion, my only choices were Fire Sword, Flares, and Combustion (I couldn't choose anything from the Power Pools until level 6). Now I'm wondering if the developers would limit me to being able to re-spec Combustion ONLY for powers that were available to me when I got it. I'm guessing not as that would be kind of lame but I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
PoisonJam
I find that for the most part levels 1-20 go fairly quickly (okay, very quickly for a fire blaster, much less quickly for my poor spines scrapper, my controller, and my tanker), so I try to get my three main attacks, hasten, my movement power, and as many prereqs for stamina as I can during those levels, with the hope of grabbing stamina at level 20, 22, or 24 at the latest. Reason being, once you get past level 10 or so, the downtime in between fights becomes a major pain, and probably the biggest time-eater in the game. Not to mention as a fire blaster I am running out of endurance in just about every fight. Firebreath and fireball are great spells, especially hastened, but they are huge endurance hogs, and using them with target drone will suck my blue bar dry in no time. Once I pick up stamina, then I try to pick up another attack power or (depending on how badly I am getting my ass kicked) a defensive power, and continue from there. It makes for slower leveling from 15-20 or so, because I'm trying to fit in those boring swift, health, or hurdle powers instead of more attacks or damage enhancers like aim, but hopefully it will help levels 21-30 go a little quicker. I sure hope so, anyway, because having to pass on aim, blaze, and cloaking device for the dull powers of swift and hurdle was a tough decision when I was leveling up my fire blaster. We'll see if it pays off when I take stamina at the next level. It sure did for Loyd. :tu:
MastaRedSnappa
The Swift/Health pill is going to be a tough one for me to swallow to get Stamina at 24 I can tell you that. However, I figure that by having Fire Blast/Ball/Breath 6-slotted, Hasten, Build Up, and Aim, I should have enough firepower to get through the next 8 levels (to 26) without a new attack power. I hope so anyway. I may have to start using Combustion to mix things up. :green:
Cathartic
Well, I'm likely going to be offline for the next several days. I've got plans to go out for a late dinner tonight, then my girlfriend will be spending the weekend at my place - which means no gaming for me! Odds are, I'll be back Monday. PoisonJam
Well thanks to Scott's generosity (he let me tag along on several of his missions even though my hero could barely dent the guys he was fighting), I got Jane up to level 22 last night and grabbed stamina. That was a big development, but even more importantly, I was able to buy single origins for the first time! As a result of both of those factors, it felt like I jumped three levels instead of just one. Playing Jane has really been quite eye-opening in a few ways. I think I was kind of spoiled by Cynder, in that she got the two powers that she will use for the rest of her life by level 20 (provoke and burn). Once I got burn six-slotted with single origins (and hasten as well, to keep it going), there really wasn't a lot of character development left. She also doesn't use any inspirations, and all of the cool buffing powers that my teammates cast on her don't really affect her very much (with the exception of Shawn's recovery aura). PoisonJane, on the other hand, lives a much more fragile (and therefore exciting) life. I have to suck down inspirations all the time with her. Every new power she gets is a big step in her development. She is never more than three hits away from dying, so I have to keep on my toes constantly. Any time I am fortunate enough to get fortitude cast on me, or I team with someone who has the leadership pool, I can really notice a big difference. And even though she'll never be the unkillable powerhouse that Cynder is, she is just a lot more fun to play with. Of course, she's level 22 and Cynder is level 28, so she is just now entering the long, slow, exp grind that starts at the mid-20s and that may certainly have something to do with it. But as Shawn alluded to earlier, there are just so many powers for the fire blaster to choose from, and I really enjoy researching them and planning out which ones I will take. Whereas with Cynder, it doesn't really matter what I take anymore. She'll likely never use it. Her primary is that honkin' axe, but with all of her toggles running she doesn't even have the endurance left to swing it.
JoeyN
Well its happened again. TK421
Last night I was running a timed mission in Perez against some trolls and I enlist the help of a couple of guys in the area. The healer we got wasn't doing much healing and during the mission I came under the attack of one to may "Gaylord's" and died. :bang: When the area cleared out I was already with awaken but, (tell me if you done this before) I accidentally hit the button to go to the hospital in stead of my awaken inspiration. DOH! :bang: :bang: . So I start my way back to the mission super jumping my way through Perez and I land in a clearing close to where I need to go in. To my surprise I drop dead on the spot.....I think WTF? :bang: :bang: :bang: A mob of lvl 35 Ritiki are just standing to the left of me. Some skinny tree like looking things and some kind of monkeys jumping around my corpse. (I don't remember their names.) It was cool to actually get to see something so high lvl but dealing with the debt I had just accrued sucked. The good news I finally made lvl 20. Time to hit the tailor. 8)
MastaRedSnappa
PoisonJam, I have the same experiences with my Blaster and Tanker characters that you have (albeit at a lower level). My level 14 tanker, Major Steroid, was my first character I played alot. But with each level, it just seemed more and more painful to play him. Soloing is painfully slow as, although my Invulnerability makes me tough to kill, my pathetic low-damage Super Strength attacks coupled with their insanely-high endurance costs makes sure that the battles last an eternity. Grouping is better but it gets boring just standing there absorbing damage and taunting/provoking (actually attacking would break up the monotony but then I'd just be wasting endurance for piddily damage). I dusted off Major Steroid last night to group with some friends and I really love being the big, strong guy (my favorite heroes in comics being the big guys like Colossus, The Thing, The Hulk, etc.) but the way the AT plays now, I'm like a tank with a squirt gun instead of a cannon. In contrast, playing a 18 fire/fire blaster (and even a 14 rad/rad defender) has been so much more fun. I feel like I can help my group AND solo when I can't find a group. Buck
I hit level 26 with Loyd today and ran into a tough decision with what power to take. My choices were.... - Energy Torrent - Explosive Blast - Power Push - Aim - Taser - Health - Flurry - Whirlwind - New pool power In the end I wound up taking Combat Jumping. As much as I wanted to take Explosive Blast or Energy Torrent I would have had to dedicate my 2 slots at 27 to them. By taking Combat Jumping I'll be able to get Stamina 6 slotted or put 1 in Stamina and 1 in Hasten to get that 6 slotted, or 1 in Stamina and 1 in a primary power. Plus with Combat Jumping my chances of getting knocked down or immobilized are greatly reduced. Level 28 will be a much easier decision to make, Trip Mine  Also, gratz to Dave for getting level 24 :tu:

PoisonJam
That is a tough choice, Scott. I know you were reluctant to commit to two sets of travel powers (as I am as well), but the defensive bonus of combat jump plus of course the vertical boost that us super-speeders desperately need, makes that a good choice. I think too many blasters concentrate exclusively on offense and neglect to take any defensive powers. That leaves you awfully vulnerable to return fire if your alpha strike misses a tough group of mobs. So some investment in stealth, combat jumping, weave, etc is wise. You made a solid choice, and congrats again on 26! I hit 24 myself as you mentioned, and I chose Aim over blaze and cloaking device. Now that I can get into Terra Volta, the easiest way for me to level is to take on those groups of sky raider lieutenants there, and with Aim I can take on oranges and reds instead of whites and yellows. I was very tempted to take blaze because my build is sorely lacking in a single-target killer, but as I mentioned to you at the time, I figured Aim would get me to Blaze quicker than Blaze would get me to Aim. PoisonJam
Wow, two levels in a day! It's been a while since that happened. Thanks to Joel and Scott for helping me hit 25, and gratz to Joel for getting 21 (and the key to Dark Astoria)! :tu: I just realized I can't take blaze at 26 as I had planned, because I'm going to need cloaking device at 26 so I can use trip mine at 28. Looks like blaze will have to wait until 30. Rats. Still, no regrets about Aim, as it allows Jane to two-shot orange minions, and take a good chunk out of purples. And besides, teaming up with Loyd and Minx means I don't have to do a lot of single-target killing anyway.
JoeyN
Sorry bout dropping without saying anything last night. My internet connection went down for a few minutes so i just decided to call it a night. Well im half way to 28 with JAk and since its a rainy day i may hit it today since there is nothing else to do. However if anyone wants to group on on Virtue for the Devouring Earth mission today , let me know as there is no way i am going to do that myself since its timed and if there are higher levels id get crushed. Also how many people can do the next TF on virtue? I know Scott, Dave, and myself are high enough. Anyone else? Well im off to stop the "Freaklympics" capt

Romier S
Im halfway to 26 so when I hit 26 I'm up for it. I'd like to jump on tonight but my wife and I have been doing the quality time thing lately so I probably won't be able to make it on until Tuesday (my day off). I'd really like to hit Terra Volta with a good group. Should be able to make it to 26 in no time which is great since doing successive missions is utterly slow as hell (XP wise) at this point. PoisonJam
Cynder is level 28, and I'd be willing to do the TF if we get enough people going. I believe Joel and Shawn are also eligible, or at least very close to it. That would give us six, but as Scott said the mobs will spawn at level 30, so the higher up in level we are the better. If I can tear myself away from Jane for a few nights, I'll work on getting Cynder up to 29 so I can tank for everyone without getting my lunch handed to me. Well im off to stop the "Freaklympics" Ugh, I hated that arc. After running the freak TF twice, I never want to see a tank smasher again. :x
