Hank Scorpio
I was chatting with some people about the classic game Secret of Mana for the SNES. The topic of Super Mario RPG came up and I heard again how it's a great game. I've never played it. I've seen it on Ebay and at other places for $20 on the low end, $35+ on the high end. Do I give in and spend some money on this game? I'd also heard it may be coming to the GBA, should I just wait for that? Decisions, decisions. blackcalx
IMHO it is one of the best games to come out for the SNES. I've played through it several times and enjoyed it each time. It was the first RPG I played that used the idea of button interaction during the fight to increase attack or decrease damage based on timing. It helps that I am/was a Square junkie since they created the game engine. I've not heard anything concrete regarding a GBA port. I would imagine the licensing hurdles to be huge since you have to get Square Enix involved. I'll be happy if it happens, but I'm not holding my breath. Hank Scorpio
Thanks! I knew that Square had their hand in the game and that's a big reason I want to play it. I think I'll go ahead and order it when I get home from work. What's the length on this bad boy? Am I looking at a potential 40+ hours down the drain? Mark E
I know it wasn't QUITE as long as other Square titles, but you're definitely looking at a minimum of 20, particularly if you want to find everything and are playing it first time through. This is an awesome title and I don't think you'll be disappointed. Some very clever gameplay bits, what with the timed attacks and such. Great original characters too, for the most part. Spoil the game as little as possible for yourself, including the manual just in case . They have some very clever twists in this one. Hank Scorpio
Thanks Mark! I know nothing about the game plot-wise and I stay away from strategy guides as much as possible. Spoiler-free is the way to be, I would agree. I do however like to get all the hidden stuff in RPGs and couldn't do that without gamefaqs. blackcalx
There are some fun gems hidden in SMRPG. One of these days I'll buy another SNES and this game will be among the first on my list of games to repurchase.
Hank Scorpio
One of these days I'll buy another SNES... Even though I never sold any* of my consoles I have sold plenty of games. I've repurchased some of them - mainly on the NES. There are some SNES games I wish I'd have kept. Namely Secret of Mana. My friend and I had a blast playing that game. I wouldn't mind seeing that re-released over here along with the sequel that was never released in the states. *I lied, I did sell my Sega CD and its games to pay for a PSX the day it was released. And my Game Gear, I sold that.
blackcalx
I put myself in a situation where I didn't have a choice but to sell my SNES and games along with my orignal GameBoy and games. I needed the money, and I lost a lot of good stuff because of it. I know better now. I don't sell consoles, but I do occasionally sell games. I keep seeing good deals on SNES packages, but I'm not ready to get one yet. If I can get a good deal on the console at at least SMRPG I'll jump on it.
