Amazing Race 5

Hey, I know some of us are watching this.

Just thought we could use a thread for it ;).

The teams seem a lot dumber this year :P.

Kickass new twist with the non-elimination legs though, and just the shot in the arm they needed to actually make them interesting. The survival of the soccer moms looks like it'll be something to watch.

Edit - Can a mod jam a spoiler subtag to this thread please? Just realized I forgot to add it, don't want to spoil it for anybody :tu:

Quite so.

But now the last team in the non-elimination legs loses ALL the money they have on them and also forfeits the money they get at the start of the next leg of the race.

Sorry, didn't put that in as I figured that people who had seen the ep would know what I was referring to when I said "twist". :)

I might even like this show better than Survivor. I dont know about you guys but everytime the girl midget runs, I laugh.

I've always enjoyed The Amazing Race, but Survivor has never had any appeal to me. I guess to me the interaction has always seemed less canned than that on Survivor. I think the people on Survivor have too much to time sit around asses and think of the next annoying thing they can do to get more camera time. I don't think the people on the Amazing Race have a bit less down time to plan things out. Another thing that separates the shows is that the on Amazing Race the annoying things people do to each other are much more blatent and spontaneous. Such things as cutting off each others vehicles and sabotaging other teams actions. Again, on Survivor the actions are much more covert and planned out. Of course this isn't a slam on Survivor so much as it's a matter of preference. One could argue that Survivor is a more intellectual reality show in that the participants do have to scheme and work covertly. Then again, so might laugh at the notion that I just put together the words intellectual and reality show . ;) As much as I perfer Amazing Race, I would say the premise is wearing a bit thin. I do have to commend the networks for filling in the summer schedule with these new episodes as opposed to filling the summer with retreads. :tu:

I also watced this, one of my favorite shows :tu:

I too wanted Colin and Christie to win, as they were the best players of the group, winning most of the legs. I did not want Brandon and Nicky to win, I can't believe how much she acted like a little baby crying on the snow bike run, give me a break

Chip and Kim were the also good players, not quite in the same league as Colin and Christie (unless it was an eating contest) and they never fought or argued with each other, unlike another team (Colin)

Calling for the town car was total genius

Agreed, but what might have lost them the race was the checking of the bags!

Hope the Amazing Race 6 comes on sooner than the span between 4 & 5 :green:

My sister chats with some people who know some people, and she heard that C&C had a flat tire in the Town Car. That would obviously be edited out to preserve the illusion that the race was closer.

She also heard that the margin of victory for C&K was about 1 hour.

AR6 should be starting up this fall. I had heard that they were to start up immediately, but they decided to wait a few weeks.

Here are the racers for TAR6, taken from the latest issue of TV Guide:

1) Jonathan Baker-42/Victoria Fuller-31 - Married Couple - Hollywood - "entrepreneur" who dyed his hair blue for the race/ex-Playmate - he "will be race's best schemer - I can do the Jedi mind trick"

2) Lori Chestnut Harvey-32/Bolo Dar'tainian-38 - Pro Wrestlers - Molino, Florida - "tough, freaky people - our job is to piss people off"

3) Rebecca Cardon-29/Adam Malis-27 - Weird Ex-Dating Couple/Spinning Teachers - Los Angeles - "we argue well-we have argument calluses"

4) Kris Perkins-30/Jon Buehler-29 - Long Distance Daters - Los Angeles/Scottsdale, Arizona - UCLA student/bar owner - "we don't like negativity - we're willing to help others, but not if it's a detriment to our winning"

5) Freddy Holliday-35/Kendra Bentley-25 - Soon to Marry Models - Miami - if he has to "eat something funky that could ruin me for a day"

6) Lena Jensen-23/Kristy Jensen-26 - Sisters - no location - carefree former striptease aerobics instructor/devout Mormon mother-model-student - "we are like fire and ice but we've come to accept each other"

7) Aaron Crumbaugh-25/Hayden Kristianson-25 - Dating Models - Los Angeles - "Boy do we butt heads" - she "comes from a family of lawyers so I'm argumentative"

8) Hera McLeod-23/Gustavus McLeod-49 - Father/Daughter - no location - special education teacher/ex-CIA operative and adventure pilot - she "I plan on manipulating people"

9) Maria Sampogna-26/Meredith Tufaro-26 - Best Friends - Queens, NY - "We're naturally laughing people, our strategy is to kill 'em with kindness"

10) Donald St. Claire-69/Mary Jean St. Claire-65 - Married 23 Years - no location - "Team Medicare - we have some creaky old joints"

11) Avi Schneier-32/Joe Rashbaum-32 - High School Buddies - Brooklyn, NY - high school teacher/ad exec - "the every Jew - Rashbaum keeps kosher (even in the race)"

Man, is Jonathan a brutal punk or what? It's like we're witnessing a spousal battery everytime we turn on that show.

And Adam threatening to kill himself everytime Rebecca gets mad at him? Where do they get these people?

So who do you pick to win from the remaining contestants?

You know, the people really make a reality show for me and this Race's contestants are not doing it for me. A bunch of psychopaths plus a lot of models. Very boring. They dont' feel like "real" people any more. I'm not saying any reality show is cast based on that, but this crew really hasn't been selling it.

I've been watching because I love the premise, but it's not as compelling as the last two have been for me. I agree that Johnathon is a total spousal abuser, he is very difficult for me to watch because I can't stand anybody like that.

I'm hoping the next one, like the next Survivor (this year's was a total drudgery), will have people that interest me rather than a bunch of plastic faces.

I would love to see Bolo witness one of Johnathons outbursts and flatten his abusing ass.
