Josh
 This looks sooooo cool. Handles music, DVDs, videogames, and more. Even scans UPC codes to automatically gather the information for you! http://www.thinksecret.com/news/deliciouslibrary.html
rustyjaw
There's a thread about it on the ArsTechnica forums. It's a side project of former employees of the OmniGroup, makers of the amazing browser OmniWeb. Definitely looking forward to this program, I love that it uses the iSight as a barcode scanner. merlot
That's really cool. Guess this is a Mac only app? Is there anything remotely similar for the PC?

kelley
Awesome! might actually have a reason to buy an iSight now.
iainl
Blimey, if it gets me a barcode-scanning DVD Profiler-equivalent for books and CDs then I'm really, really interested. Even just with DVDs I'm really glad I hunted down a CueCat. Of course, I don't have a Mac, but there you go.
Calvin
Awesome! might actually have a reason to buy an iSight now. How much is one? This is one reason to finally get a new Mac

I use one of those Cue Cat barcode scanners radio shack was giving away years agao for entering data.
rustyjaw
I wish I was posting to say that this software has been released, alas I'm not. But the company has finally added something beyond a splash page to their site: http://www.delicious-monster.com/
MrMike
Does it let you create a website based on the content and then store it on a webserver? I like to publish my dvd collection so friends can take a look at it on the web. It would be cool if it integrated with netflix to display the netflix queue or allow queue manipulation without having to actually go to the netflix site. Darius
Looks like its out. I'm downloading it now to check it out. Delicious Library I found out from This article.
xPieter
Thanks, Darius. I'm gonna try it out as soon as I get home! Pieter
xPieter
Got it! Here's my Xbox collection... Using the iSight as my bar-code scanner I had less than 50% success in getting the videogame titles to auto-download. The simple fix was to find it at Amazon, copy the ASIN and paste it into Library. Movies, on the other hand, have given me a 100% success rate first try (I've done close to 30). It is so much fun. There are endless bits of details to input and edit. For example, I'm unhappy with some of the cover art that was auto-downloaded, so that'll take some time to correct. I haven't even looked at the loaning aspect, but have some movies, cds, and videogames out right now that I'm eager to experiement with. Josh
I'll need to get this. Anyone have a good source for a decent deal on an iSight?
Darius
Yes, if anyone knows of a good deal on an iSight. I would also be interested. I don't think I can justify the cost just for the one program. The loaning portion works great. As I'm still operating on the demo side of things (limited to 25 items) I did put in the items that I had currently loaned out to friends. You can grab the people directly from the address book. Its very cool. Any word on how the scanning works on books?
xPieter
I grabbed a dozen or so books off the shelf and tried scanning them in with very poor results. I would imagine it's because books are always coming out in different versions, and anything that's not brand new will fail to show up in the database. It only makes sense that my 10 year old copy of Jurassic Park is not going to be for sale any longer as they constantly change the cover art for best-sellers like that. I added about 1/3 of my CD collection very easily (except for imports and a few singles), and have had fun organizing them according to different criteria. Right now my favorite is release date. It's fun to see a clumping of discs from say high school era or other musical phases I went though. I can say "Ah, yes, 1995... my Pink Floyd stage. Good times." Or, "Remember the neo-jazz phase of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Squirell Nut Zippers? What the hell was that?" Pieter
rustyjaw
I got home this evening from vacation and one of the first things I did was download this and try it out. I'm totally hooked on it, even though it does have some shortcomings. I find that a good deal of my music doesn't get identified, but I can't say I'm surprised as so much of it is obscure. If they could open up their search to discogs.com or some other site with catalogs of less common music I'd be happier. I'm not terribly concerned since, in effect, I already have a catalog of my music via iTunes. For books though, this thing is great. I've scanned almost 100 books so far, and because it uses Amazon, it has every single book I've thrown at it, save one...and I have a lot of fairly obscure academic books. It eventually found the one book that wouldn't scan by using the ISBN number and the title (oddly, the ISBN alone didn't do it!). It does not have cover art for all the books, but that is the case mostly for the more obscure titles like Inductive Inference and Its Natural Ground. Although there are a couple of books that really should have cover art, I can't quite figure out why they don't. The only technical problem I've had is that some books (and it seems like only books) double-scan, I get duplicate entries one right after the other. Maybe this has to do with the fact that many books have two UPCs, one for the ISBN and another one which is just a number...but that's just a guess. I've done a few movies and had trouble with one, Spiderman, but I think it's because I bought it on a Blockbuster bargain bin and it has a Blockbuster-specific UPC. All in all, I love the way this program works, it has a stellar interface, the iSight scanning works well with rare exceptions. I can't wait for some updates to correct some of the problems, but it's rocking my world as it is.
rustyjaw
Wow, this thing sucks at finding games automatically, I guess Amazon doesn't use the UPC. I've tried about 10 and 0% have been found. Guess I'll have to enter the ASIN like Pieter did. They need to find other sources for 'net lookup. xPieter
Huge update for Delicious Library Lots of Tiger updates (including Spotlight support and a Dashboard widget) we won't be able to use until tomorrow. Also promised is an increase in speed and more accurate/detailed information downloaded when queried. Pieter Suggestion: This old thread probably belongs in the PC and Mac area now. JoeyN
I got Delicious Library today and I must say Im very impressed. I didnt even pay attention to this thread as i had a PC when Josh started it. Since i got the Imac two weeks ago i have been looking for a DVD tracking program with no real success. While reading a Mac magazine today I saw a address for DL. Been using it to do all my tv show dvd's and around twenty games i have in my room. Super fast. The I-sight as a scanner is excellent. Only one thing out of over a 100 things didnt scan and that was COH as its code is so tiny and dark. Three DVD's didnt have cover art but i just found them elsewhere and added them in. Ill post more thoughts as i really get into adding my movie library in. Thats gonna be a long chore
JoeyN
Wow didnt realize it syncs with the Ipod. Excellent just what i wanted

JoeyN
Bringing this thread back for those who do not know about it. Also because they just released a big update, and a Iphone/Ipod touch viewer app. Finally can take my collection list on the go. It syncs wirelessly between your Iphone/touch and your Mac. I have a huge collection of movies/games and it update in less then a minute. Also no slow down browsing on the Iphone Delicious-monster.com
Orpheus
<sigh> I know there's a windows program that's a close ripoff of this. Is it any good? If there is one thing I wish I had a mac for it's this.
