Camp
My Klipsch 2.1 system seems to have died. One of the main hardwired cables that runs from the subwoofer to the master speaker has gone bad and I'm interested in buying a replacement. I haven't kept up with PC speakers so I don't know what's out there. At the time the Klipsch were a great value for nice sounding PC speakers. I'm curious to hear recomendations. I'm only interested in a 2.1 or 2 speakers as I just don't want to have to wire 5 or 6 speakers around my desk. Mods: I couldn't choose between "off topic", "Tech support" or the "Computer" forum...please feel free to move the thread as you see fit. kelley
Camp I moved this to Computers. Now to answer your question, I'd go with the Logitech Z-680s with their built in DD5.1, DTS, and ProLogic decoder.
Angry the Clown
I've not long had The Logitech Z3 series of 2.1 speakers I really am thrilled with them I must admit. They are fairly expensive ($100 in the US I think), but the build quality and sound I think is really excellent for the price. I couldn?t be happier with them to be honest. Check them out here. MrJames
Currently using the Inspire 5100's but the center speaker doesn't work. I'll replace them eventually with the Z680's Kelley mentioned.
Ryan FB
I'm using the Z-560's, which are the same as the 680's minus the center speaker (which if anyone has an extra of laying around, I'll buy it ) and the decoder, and with a slightly different sub design...they're great. Camp
Here are the ones I want: http://www.nhthifi.com/2004/products/produ...D=4&SubjectID=5 But I just don't know if I can justify $500 on speakers right now. My use is mainly for music so a subwoofer isn't 100% necessary right now
Camp
BTW, anyone interested in the Z-680 take a look at this price: http://www.provantage.com/buy-7LGTS006-z-6...03-shopping.htm
rustyjaw
Hmm, if your main use is for music, I'm not sure I'd recommend the Z680's then. I have a set and they are good for day-to-day stuff, games, etc. But I'm not too impressed with how they handle music. I would imagine those NHTs would be great, I like their stuff. $500 is steep, but then again, if these are your main music source, I'd consider spending more money. If they are in addition to a primary stereo, then I wouldn't go crazy.
iainl
Dan's 2.1 system is satisfyingly meaty, so I can recommend that. I'm just using a Yamaha 2-speaker set that I've had for about 5 years now. Nothing special to report about them, other than that I like the way they have two inputs on them, so I can both run the PC sound straight to them and also a line out from the monitor sound so I get decent XBox noises as well. Orpheus
I'm not sure I'd agree with Ed, I really like the Z680's for music but the room they are in is small and I always have my big rig to listen on as well. Another option would be to get a nice used receiver or integrated amp and a pair of good bookshelf speakers and run that way. I had a spare NAD reveiver hooked up to my PC for several years powering the old Optimus LX pro bookshelves with the Linaeum tweeters. Eats up a bit of desktop space but was very nice for listening. Receiver died so now I alternate between the 680's and an older yamaha 2.1 rig if I want to do pc stuff while on xbox live.

I wasn't in the market for new speakers before, but this piques my interest. I assume this Provantage place is cool?
Cyberwoo
I've been using my bose system for my computer audio needs for about 7 years now. 2 cubes + subwoofer for front channel and 2 cubes for rear channel. They still sound better than most computer speakers out there. I use a pair of Sennheiser HD-570's headphones for the most part though. Anyone ever dealt with Provantage?

Whooter
Interesting. This morning when I looked, the speakers were $200 and shipping was $10.95 for UPS Ground. Tonight, the speakers are $198 and shipping is $32 for UPS Ground ( )... Still a pretty good deal, though. I'm tempted to wait and see what tomorrow brings... MrJames
I noticed that when looking earlier. Even at $232 shipped it still beats some of the others I've seen like Newegg at $250 + $16 and ZipZoomFly at $225 + $33. I'm willing to wait and see as well.
