Saurav
This is the only video game website I look at, since the firewall at work blocks everything else, and I only browse the Xbox forum on here. So I apologize if this has been discussed recently, but I searched for Doom and Xbox and didn't find anything. Anyway, my question is, what's the latest information and/or rumors on these two games making it to the Xbox? Yes? No? Tentative dates? I've resisted the temptation to buy the PC Doom 3, and if the Xbox version might be out in a couple of months, I think I'll wait. Thanks, Saurav
Chris F
There's an Xbox port of Doom 3, complete with co-op play over Xbox Live coming in a few months. Other than that, not much is known about it. http://xbox.ign.com/objects/482/482119.html http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/action/doom3/...x.html?q=doom+3 Half-Life 2 has been confirmed for Xbox as well, but not much is known about it at this point. http://xbox.ign.com/objects/552/552580.html http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/action/halfli...tml?q=half+life
Saurav
Thanks. I'll have to wait to get home before I can read those links

Camp
Could doom be ready by October 4th? That's what our reservation list seems to think at work.
dogbert
That's the date I'd been hearing, Camp. At Quakecon though, they said it might not make it till next year.
ColdForged
After playing this single-player -- not through very far, mind you, but still -- I think this has the capacity to be one of the most fun Live experiences to be had. Please, please, please do it right, guys!
General Zot
I agree with Cold. After playing a week or so on the PC version, Xbox version just might be the better deal. The PC version is prettier, but the atmosphere in this game just screams for co-op play. They really should have included it for PC, but it will make the XBox version uber-tight IMHO. Whooter
I'm probably in the minority, but I wouldn't want co-op play in Doom 3. The whole point of the game is to be a lone-wolf, fighting your way through the hordes of demons and zombies. I think the atmosphere and tension would be destroyed if you introduced multiple PCs into the storyline. My 2 pennies.
GrumpyElf
I have to agree with Whoot, it's all about your own nerves getting so tense.... plus, I simply can't see 2 people squeezed into some of the situations, it's so cramped in there in many areas... we'll see. General Zot
I've been through haunted houses alone and with friends, I'm just as scared off my ass either way  Doom 3 would be intact co-op with minimal changes, no worries there. Romier S
plus, I simply can't see 2 people squeezed into some of the situations, it's so cramped in there in many areas... we'll see. Thats my main reservation really. Doom 3 is a corridor crawl above anything else and man those corridors are cramped. The game does a great job of giving you multiple paths to explore though so it may be allowing one person to explore one direction and find the key while the other clears out the opposite area etc.. As mentioned we shall see.
reeldeal
This article mentions they don't think it'll be released this year
Derrik Draven
You guys that are lucky enough to have pc's that can handle Doom 3, how long would you say the game takes? I've heard somewhere in the 20+ hour range, on average. That's not a bad amount of gaming. Read an article about Half Life 2 where it's supposedly around 35 hours, or so. DAMN!!!!! Romier S
I've heard somewhere in the 20+ hour range, on average. Took me about 15 and half hours to get through the game completely Derrick. At least 3 of those hours bored me to tears (ie padding). There is just a very serious lull point in the middle of the game which starts a couple levels before the recycling center center up until you finally get out of the Delta labs and reach your "destination" (spoiler so I wont mention it). After you get to that destination the game picks up really nicely again and stays that way until the end.

Saurav
Had another thought. Any chance this game will allow online play against PC gamers? For that matter, are there any games where you can hook an Xbox up to a PC LAN and join in a game?
dogbert
Nope, no games offer that or are likely to. Xbox Live is a closed system in the sense that Microsoft do not allow Xbox online titles to connect to non-Xbox platforms.
Derrik Draven
I played this for about 15 minutes, the other night, on my somewhat underpowered (for this game) laptop. ...needless to say, I promptly quit, removed it from my harddrive. I'm definitely waiting for the Xbox version! I had to play it with everthing set to the lowest common denomintor, and the dinky little sterio speakers destroy the atmosphere it's trying to convey. *duh* right? Xbox version, all the way! Has there been any news at all about when to expect a verion of Half Life 2 on the 'Box? No so sure I can wait for that title...unless it releases rather close to the pc verison. Saurav
Xbox Live is a closed system I understand that. System Link should be pretty close to a PC looking for games on a local LAN though, right? I'm guessing here, since I've never played on System Link. I wish they'd allowed local LAN matches between Xbox and PC, even if they wanted to restrict internet matches to the Xbox Live network only. Derrik Draven
Damn...still no word on Half Life 2 for Xbox. I'll bet their going to hold out and make this a launch title for Next Box.
Cyberwoo
I cant imagine HL2 running very well on xbox while still maintaining the look of the pc version. I feel for those who cannot experience this game the way its meant to be. It is too great.

Well it's working for Doom 3, which I think requires more PC power to run at an acceptable framerate, more so than HL2, albeit understandably with lower textures. I don't why this would be a problem with HL2 if id managed to do it for Doom 3.
