Different Game Endings...

Carlucci

Do you like when games have better endings based on the difficulty/%/time of completion?

  1. 1. Do you like when games have better endings based on the difficulty/%/time of completion?

    • Yes, if you invest the time/skills, you should get the better reward
    • No, Ending should be the same at all difficulties
    • Doesn't matter, I'll watch the other endings on the internet anyway

I am mixed on this one. I don't really like this practice in general, but if I were a highly skilled player I would want an additional reward for my hard work.

I'm voting no. I don't really mind when a game gives a better ending based on difficulty, but I really hate it when they base it on % complete or time to complete. To me, that shifts the focus of the game to just collecting or racing the clock.

I voted yes. After playing through some older games again to see the best ending (Metroid Prime, Halo, Resident Evil remake), the extra reward is nice and does give me an added incentive to play through these games again. Of course, I don't always play through a game a second time to see a new ending, but for those that I do, it is appreciated.

Yep, I'm with Allen on this one.

My best example for this would be Turtles in Time, where you don't actually see a proper ending unless you beat it on the hardest mode. Otherwise Splinter shows up and tells you to try it on a harder difficulty, you lazy bastard.

Now that I think of it, Konami was awful for this; they pulled the same thing in Batman Returns as well.

More recently, Konami also pulled the same trick with Contra: Shattered Soldier. I won't spoil what happens for you here, but I will say that if you try to beat the game on Easy, you will end up with the "sad" ending. Beat the game on Normal, and you'll get a proper ending. At least that's what I'm told since I haven't actually beaten the game on Normal yet.
