Angry the Clown
And so yet again another great of the golden era has passed. This is becoming deeply depressing for me. I'm almost reminded of the day the world lost Robert Mitchum and Jimmy Stewart within two days of eachother. To have lost Goldsmith some weeks ago, David Raksin only the other week, and now Bernstein in such a short space of time is really quite terrible. I attended Bernstein's 80th Birthday Celebration concert at the Albert Hall a couple of years ago, and it remains one of the best concerts I've ever been too, but I remain shocked how relatively low the attendance was. Magnificent Seven, the Great Escape, The Man with the Golden Arm, his stunning repertoire of music written for the majority of Martin Scorsese's films... My personal favourite of his remains To Kill a Mockingbird, still one of the most beautiul scores I have ever heard in my entire life.   Daniel

Its certainly going to be engrained all over the top of my memory for the rest of the afternoon. Bernstein was an absolute master of the melodic theme; its sad to hear he's gone.
