merlot
Odd that they'd patent something that doesn't even friggin exist. Will this patent somehow affect MS's LIVE service?? :?
iainl
Don't worry guys, I already pointed out to them yesterday that they're off on the Live launch date.
FLYING SE7EN
Yeah, I would imagine that MS had patents for its Live service in order way, way, way before the beta testing even took place. J.
Thrillho
When did Dreamcast go online? They were first out of the shoot really weren't they?
General Zot
I hope Nintendo has some good patent lawyers, because I KNOW Microsoft has... oh... a few  Really surprised you could patent something like that, would seem those items would be public domain by the fact that they are so widely used already. Dan B.
This patent is regarding the Nintendo 64's 64DD add-on. See this article about it a few days ago at Gamespot: http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/08/17/news_6105085.html (whoops, I fixed the link now)
Robot Monkey
The best thing about that article is that Gamespot "acquired a scan of the actual patent documents." I guess that's what you say when you cut-and-paste a patent number into the USPTO search engine and then click on the images button (horse's mouth). Dan B.
Well what do you know. At least they're more on the ball than The Register...

Oh, hey, I'm not complaining. Kudos to Gamespot for checking the filing and reporting what they found rather than promulgating a rumor. I'm just amused by their language. -j
