shine5555
Help, My GameCube started acting a bit funny?.When I am playing a game, I can sometimes get it to load the game and then when it needs to read form the disk again it freezes up and says to check Disk. Now I can take the disk out and try to clean it, and it sometimes works for a bit more and sometimes it will not work again. This is happening with all my games. Anyone ever heard of this??? Is there some kind of disk cleaner I could try and use for the inside lenses? I know I had this problem with my PS2 in the past but I have fixed that. Should I try and out some tape on the games or anything like that? Thanks, - Scott
Mark E
Oh shit. This happened to me Scott, and I hope you only bought in the last year because I ended up having to buy a new Cube. Pushing the discs down to load can cause the Cube to go a bit wonky in the spindles which upsets the lens balance or something to that effect. If you do a Google for disc read error you can find some homebrew solution for it that may work depending on the damage. I had somebody who fixes electronics for a living look at it and it was a total write-off. Good luck, dude :tu:
JFo
I have a friend who had some similar problems with his Cube. As Mark said, if you recently purchased it, it's most likely still under warranty. In that case, you can send it to Nintendo, and they will fix the problem for you free of charge. I'll have to check, but I think they'll even cover shipping costs. Naturally, the only downside to this is that you'll have to go without the system for a while. Still, it beats having to buy a new one, right? Anyway, my friend seemed real pleased with the service and now his GameCube works perfectly fine. Keep us posted on what happens! AnthonyVolpe
Wow. This is the first time I have EVER heard of a GameCube giving a read error. XBox, all the time... PS2, occasionally. But GameCube???
Mark E
Like I said, Google it. It's not as rare as you might think. Uncommon, yes, but not rare. How very CCG of it .
MLivaudais
I've had this problem, but ONLY with Mario Party 4 and Mario Party 5. Just those 2 games. It has nothing to do with the duration of time that I play them, so it's not like it's overheating. They're not scratched or dirty. Doesn't happen all the time, but I'd say it happens less than once every 10 times i play it. Have you noticed it doing that with all of your games, or just specific ones? shine5555
Yea, it is with all my games?. I am thinking of just trading it in?and getting a new one.. I have four wave birds for it, but not the cash for a new one just yet. I might try to adjust the laser, as I have read about a bunch of people doing Thanks, - Scott
