Terra Volta Respec Trial

For those that are interested in running the Respec Trial on the Virtue server, Joey, Joel and I will probably be starting around 4:30 EST. Joel and I tested the reverse sidekick last night and it appears that if you're over level 33 you will be able to join. For anyone else interested the level range is 24-33.

Hope more of you can make it as it's been awhile since we've all played together :tu:

When Joel and I tried it last night the contact told me we needed 3 more heroes, if I wasn't sidekicked to Joel she told me that my services would better used elsewhere. Also, since my security level dropped to level 32 I was not able to use Acrobatics, which I got at level 35.

Hope you can make it, Shawn, I always felt Nannou and Psycho made a pretty good healing duo :tu:

No problem, Joey :)

They're actually taking the servers down for about 30 minutes, so we'll be back on again around 7:30 EST, so if you're feeling better, we could use your help :)

MOTHER F#*%&R

I don't know if it was the worst team in history or if was the fact that 2 of the 6 in our group were total fucking morons, but I'm one pissed off super hero

First you have a Fire Blaster that pulls sooooo much fucking aggro that he got our team wiped out at least 3 times, though he did die approximately 15 times more than anyone else. Next you've got an Empathy Defender who doesn't know how to fucking heal, or heal a reactor for that matter.

I should have been smart enough to quit the TF after the first door mission, but you live and learn. I actually thought we were going to pull it off when we got to the reactor. But, when you've got a person on your team that would rather run out of the room to TP someone out and rez them instead of saving the core so the others on the team can revive and have a fighting chance at the reward, well, you have me, Joel, and Joey with nothing to show for it except a shit load of debt :bang: :bang:

Dave, get your ass back from Florida already.

Yeah that totally sucked last night. You have a fireblaster who dosnt fireblast. He runs into the middle of shit and tries to knock guys out with punch's. I should have just let the reactor blow last night at that one point. Would have saved us a extra 1/2 hour of torture. However i did think i was able to make the save, and then the blaster kills himself AGAIN, the Defender tries to revive him instead of healing the two scrappers who are fighting 20 guys alone. Then after i finally got up and saved the core, was fighting off guys, the Defender dosnt TP you guys out and then revive. Thats why i hate teaming with non LCVG guys, and a reason i havent played COH much recently. PLEASE LET THEM ALLOW ME TO MOVE JAK TO LIBERTY SOOOOOOOOOOON.

Wow. What lvl's were the people on your teams guys? I ran this last night with my super group and we only had to add 2 extra to make the full team of 8. It seemed like a piece of cake really. Granted I was at lvl 37 and a few poeple on my team were as high as 41, a lot of the baddies were around lvl 40 to 42. So I died 3 times..(after the 3rd I took a sidekick to lvl 40 and never looked back) and that was before we even got to the core. Infact I thought the waves of Freaks came a little slow. We would wipe them out wait a few minutes for them to spawn again. The only time I had any concern was the last wave that came with what seemed like twice as many as the ones before. I don't think the reactor ever dipped below 2/3 its HP. Maybe I got in there after the fix & because of all the complaning some people made, they made it a lot easier.

The lower level respec is against the Sky Raiders and is the trial that people say is too hard. There were 2 problems with the run we made. One, we didn't have a Tanker and two, we had a Blaster (though he was more of a Blapper) that would lead off every fight and an Empathy Defender that wasn't quite up to the challenge of healing all that well. We could have lived without a Tanker if I was able to hold more than 25% of the time.

I'm level 27 and was fighting level 31s and 32s, so I'd hit 1 out of the 15+ mobs with my mass holds, not very effective ;) Joel and our worthless Defender were sidekicked as they were the lowest levels. Thinking back it probably would have been better to have me sidekicked than the Defender so I'd have a better chance at holding and left the Defender to well, um, healing I suppose ;)

Now granted, when we did reach the reactor the mob levels were down to 28s in the first few waves, but towards the end the mobs were at 31s. I plan on trying the respec again tonight with people my own level or ones that will be able to sidekick me so that I'm within 2 levels of the mobs.

I'm still in awe of anyone that finished that trial BEFORE they made it "easier"...

I felt a little better when I heard my brother and his hearty band of former EQ geeks (he'd been playing for years, and had a few super-high level chars) had tremendous difficulty, and ultimately failed, in their first attempt at it, too...

Man, what a difference a proper, intelligent group makes. :green:

Psycho and iMaginique teamed up with a bunch of players who knew what they were doing, and we knocked that Trial out with little difficulty this time around. Only 4 deaths total in the group the entire length of the run. Nice. :tu:

I would definitely like to do the trial. While I am pretty happy with 90% of my powers, there are a couple of pools that I would like to get rid of and start anew. My schedule this week will probably be spotty, but if any of you guys are around this weekend, I would love the help and the company of the LCVG crew.

I was up until 3:30 this morning completing the trial. It took us a very long time to gel our tactics, but one we did the reactor core was a snap. I've run into a very interesting dilemma, however.

For over four hours we fought tooth and nail for the right to respec our characters. But once it was over I started seriously thinking about what I would take in place of this or that. I'm somewhat abashed to say that I have nothing that I really want to get rid of.

First off, I'm not getting rid of Fly after all. Now that I've discovered the magic of three slotted Fly I'm very happy with it. Besides, Hover still comes in handy here and there. I just wish that there was another option besided Group Fly, which at this stage in the game is useless.

All of my Empathy powers have their uses. Besides, the collector in me demands that I have the full set.

The three Leadership auras I have are indispensible. If I were to get rid of one it would be Assault, simply for the fact that I can't slot it to futher increase the damage of my team. The base increase, however, is well worth having especially in a large team.

I hate to use up a pool for one power, but Hasten is just too useful for keeping the RAs and my heals going. I don't need Flurry or Whirlwind, and Super Speed would be a redundant travel power. I wouldn't be opposed to having Super Speed as my travel power except that I'm used to the upward mobility of Fly. It would, however, allow me to open up another pool since I would be replacing Fly.

If I were to make serious changes it would be to my Dark Blast powers. I have no choice but to take the initial power, but here I have an opportunity to evaluate the usefulness of Moonbeam and Dark Pit. The problem is that I have no experience with any of the alternatives. I could take the tentacle power which holds and does damage over time. Would that be more useful than a damageless disorient power? My hang up here is that I play two different roles depending on the size and composition of the team. In large teams with plenty of damage I'm 100% Empathy. In smaller, less damage-oriented groups, however, I find that my blast attacks and disorient power are quite necessary. Moonbeam has served me well but I wonder if there is a better way to deal damage. I don't necessarily need the range of Moonbeam.

Then there is the possibility of another pool, though I would have to sacrifice something to start it. Teleport Friend seems like a great power for a healer to have just for the ability to teleport the dead out of the heat of battle, but then I find myself once again using a pool for one power. Stealth would be great, especially since most maps have snipers now. The ability to grant invisibility to the team would also be a great addition to a Defender's power set.

I'm beginning to think that I never needed respec to begin with, which makes me happy to think that I got my first character right.

Any suggestions?

Of course :)

One of the main things I did with Psycho was take some powers later than I originally did and slotted them a bit differently. I don't remember if you took Recovery Aura at 18 or not? This would be one of the things you could change and get it slotted earlier that way you're freeing up the slots later.

I highly recommend copying Nannou over to the test server (you can have up to 5 copies of him at one time) and try some different configurations. Worst case it's fun to see some powers that you would have never taken and probably won't after you see them in action ;)
