Camp
No games yet...just basic menus and such. Still, it's a slick interface. Shows the Palm OS integration and gives an idea of the control layout. The screen ought to be fantastic. http://www.pdarcade.com/modules.php?name=N...order=0&thold=
Andre F
Looks nice and I'm glad to see you go that site!
Camp
I visit it occasionally. However, to be honest, I think PDA's suck as a gaming platform. I've had a ton of fun playing Majong while waiting to board a flight but it's not exactly the same as a "real" video game. The "real" video games available for either PDA platform suffer from poor controls and graphics. I hope the Tapwave changes that.
heavy liquid
My hopes are pretty high for this. The specs are impressive: MP3 functionality, watch videos, a 3.8-inch transflective display that supports 65,000 colors with a resolution of 320x240, Fathammer X-Forge 3D Game Engine, a Motorola .MX1 ARM-based processor and a virtual Graffiti Area. Dual SD card slots as well. Unfortunately, the price is impressive as well: $400 for the 128 MB version! But I don't have a PDA, so I'm seriously considering getting this. I wonder what kind of emulators could show up on this? -Erik
Andre F
Camp, The reason I said about the site is because I right reviews etc, for the PPC side of the site. With that being said, gaming has a long way to go on PDAs! What's funny is that have a PPC and just bought the SJ22 and LOVE it!
Camp
I'll be sure to look out for your reviews next time. Which PPC do you use?
heavy liquid
Looks like a picture of the Tapwave Zodiac has been leaked: here Looking good. There was also video, but I missed it because it was pulled at the request of Tapwave.
Camp
Thanks for posting that. It does look nice. They did a good job making a game design that doesn't appear to compromise the accepted PDA formfactor. 128 MB of internal RAM is amazing for a Palm device. heavy liquid
No problem. It seems to be about the same size as a GBA, only thinner. Good for landscape games, and easy to turn around to work with in portrait mode. Really well done design IMHO. I don't have a PDA, so I'll definitely be pre-ordering to show support. There's also a few more details here.
heavy liquid
More info coming out. The CNET video is up here. It's too bad some of the video of the games in action is a little dark. There's also another article here. It'll come bunded with two games: Stunt Car Extreme and Acid Solitare.

Andre F
Camp, I use an Audiovox Maestro. I've had it for a while and recently switched back to the Palm side anyway with a Clie SJ22.
iainl
My wife has just upgraded her Handspring Visor Neo to the Cli? SJ33, and I've got serious gadget envy on, its lovely. And the version of Lemmings she has for it is just stunning - presumably runs on the 22 as well, if you want to try it out.
heavy liquid
There's some screenshots of Stuntcar Extreme, the game that comes bundled with the Zodiac here. As they mention, it looks good, compairable to the PSOne.
Camp
Well, I lost my Clie (NR70v) yesterday. As I cannot possibly live without a PDA (it's my memory, schedule, & checkbook) I need a new one ASAP. Looks like the Zodiac is due in early October...I may be smart to wait for it. It would save me from dropping $500 on the comperable Sony (the NX80v). Camp
BTW, the tapwave site and the godoplay.com site are down right now...I wonder if they're updating in preparation for release/pre-order info?
heavy liquid
That sucks about your Clie, Camp. If everything about the Zodiac turns out as hoped, I also think you'd be smart to wait for it. I've never owned a PDA, so if I get this it will be my first. It'll be nice to have a better organizational system than my usual hundred post-it notes floating around. I noticed that the sites were down a few days ago as well, and then back up a few hours later. Hmmm? Also, any idea if the pre-orders will bill you right away, or if they will wait until they ship in October (hopefully)? I guess we'll find out tomorrow... Camp
I believe it is. I never tried synching my iBook with my PDA. I'll have to play around with that some time. For whatever reason I've always done the PC to PDA thing. I guess because it's a desktop and I want the cradle nearby. BTW: The Tapwave site is back up with all kinds of new content: http://www.tapwave.com/product/index.asp I still can't find any info on the exact measurements. They don't mention a release date (not even a target date) yet you can pre-order one.
kelley
In terms of just playing games is there any difference between the 32MB and the 128MB version?
heavy liquid
In terms of just playing games is there any difference between the 32MB and the 128MB version? No, there shouldn't be. Same with the applications for it. It's just more availible memory (that can be accessed much faster than the SD cards). It may come into play later however, when emulators start showing up for it. Camp
Well, I ordered one. I got the 128 MB version (that is a TON of memory for a Palm OS device) even though I like the slate color of the 32 MB version better. I also ordered a 512 MB SD card just for the sake of overkill. I'm gonna have to fill it with porn or something. One of the factors that drove my decision was the size of the unit. It's much smaller than pictures suggest. From the pics I thought it would be too bulky to keep in my pocket. That's just not the case at all. It's smaller than the original Gameboy Advance. Check this out: Gameboy Advance: Size: 3.2 x 5.6 x 1 inches (82 mm x 144.5 mm x 24.5 mm) Screen: 2.9-inch reflective TFT color LCD Zodiac: Size: 5.6? (143mm) x 3.1? (79mm) x .55? (14mm) Screen: 3.8 inch transflective display Clie NX80 (the clamshell: Size: 5 5/8 (L) x 3 (W) x 7/8 (H) inches Screen: 3.8 inch transreflective display It's all screen! To be honest the assembled bunch of announced games does nothing for me. I'd be surprised if any are all that much fun. I'm buying this as a PDA first and a game player second. Plus I agree, the possibilities for emulators is mind numbing.
