Romier S
Leno will apparently be retiring in 2009 and Conan has already signed the contract to take over as the host of the show in 2009. I like! :tu: http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/TV/09/27/l...reut/index.html
rustyjaw
2009? Man that's a ways off. I wish it was sooner, Leno's awful, IMO. I'd still probably watch Letterman, but at least there'd be something to switch over to on Letterman's off nights or reruns.
Beer Monkey
Wow, five more years before Conan at 11:30. Talk about bittersweet. I wish Jay would retire.
GreenMonkey
Man, Conan is too weird for the tonight show. I imagine they'll reign him in for it. Ex: I doubt you'll have instant Walker Texas Ranger clips on the Tonight Show. I love Conan and all, but I think he is definitely too wierd for it. kelley
Yeah that is my biggest concern, will Conan be too weird for the Tonight Show and will they try to make him into a Leno ver.2. What would be awesome though is if they brought back the sidekick, come on Andy come back to Conan.
secretvampire
Can't happen soon enough...I can't stand Leno at all. But yeah, I hope he isn't forced to water himself down too much...
Orpheus
there had better be a masturbating bear or i won't be watching
Cyberwoo
I can't stand Leno and never have. Letterman is still king of late night although his shows aren't nearly as good as they used to be (I really miss the good ol days where he would go out on the town and make fun of people). Anyway I agree that Conan would have to change a little bit when he takes over the 11:30 spot but it wont be anything drastic. Be interesting. All I know is its 5 more years that I wont be watching anything on NBC from 11:30 - 12:30.
General Zot
All talk show hosts chill as time goes on. When's the last time you saw Letterman throw a bunch of watermellons off a 5 story building? His show is totally lame for innovative stuff now, but Dave is still Dave and the show rolls on. NBC will just fish around until they find someone new and edgy to fill Conan's old time slot. That's what they did to find him in the first place. I'm sure Conan will be fine on the Tonight Show, though the humor will change.
JoeyN
Triumph better still be on there capt
Starhawk
Well, once 2009 gets here, that will be the first time I've watched the Tonight Show in like 10 years. Retire now, Jay!

rustyjaw
When's the last time you saw Letterman throw a bunch of watermellons off a 5 story building? Not watermellons, but he is still throwing stuff off of the Ed Sullivan Theatre now and then. I think the last one I saw was 100,000 golf balls or something like that...it was cool. His show is totally lame for innovative stuff now, but Dave is still Dave and the show rolls on. I guess that depends on your taste, I like the "Pat and Kenny read Oprah Transcripts" -- it's freaking hilarious. I also like the one writer who comes out to impersonate various stars or public figures...he's great. I happened to watch last night when they sent Bif Henderson out onto NY streets with a Tuba player, they ran around blasting the tuba in people's faces, it wasn't genius, but it was pretty entertaining. CaptainRon
I'll be happy to see Conan on earlier in the evening, but i'm worried that he'll become more mainstream. I think they'll try to make his comedy more run of the mill so it will appeal to the masses and then it will suck. hopefully i'm completely wrong. Ricky G
Conan will be better than Leno for sure, but my pick would be Jon Stewart. Oh well, Comedy Central doesn't mind.
JohnEBGood
I think thats fantastic!! I've been a conan fan from the beginning...this is great news to me.
EnemaEms
I wish Leno was retiring in 5 minutes, not 5 years. I cannot stand Leno and his horrible bits and bad interview skills. 10 to 1 Conan becomes another puppet like Leno now is. -Dean-
MrJames
I don't see Conan doing his current material on a new Tonight Show. I like his show as is so I don't mind waiting until 2009.
Starhawk
I actually remember watching the Tonight Show when Leno introduced who was going to be the new host of Late Night! I remember thinking, "Who is this guy!?" Now he's my favorite late night host by far. While I can't wait to see Conan take over the Tonight Show, I do think his material won't be as good since they will point him in a more mainstream direction. I loved Letterman when he hosted Late Night. When he made the move to CBS, I gradually started to watch the show less. I'm just hoping Conan will keep as much of his old self as he can.
