I'm thinking of suggesting that [Nintendo] make movies, and to have them run in conjunction with game releases," commented Yamauchi to the press. "I want them to be something that will be accepted overseas as well as in Japan. The production of games and animated movies are relatively similar. It's something that the management [at Nintendo] will decide, but it's the kind of field that we should be going into. Nintendo can take the risk."

I personall thing it's a great idea. I would love to see a Metroid anime released in conjunction with the next iteration of Prime. Or how about Zelda for that matter?

Well, as long as they're better than the old Super Mario Bros. Super Show cartoons, I think it would probably be okay.

I wonder if this means that Nintendo would release these animated shows on TV first or if they'll be produced on DVDs. Here's a thought: maybe they'll produce the shows and release them on mini-DVDs that work only in GameCubes, sort of like the GBA movies that are out now.

It looks as if the studio is a go.

The initial story drafted plans for a movie based the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu poems. Nikkei now reports that Nintendo is considering a movie based on one of its own game franchises instead.

The poems idea sounds a bit odd for a Nintendo project. The idea of doing an animated piece on one of their popular gaming franchises makes much more sense. I mean, who wouldn't want to see a kick-ass animated Zelda movie?
