I'll be picking it up next week (10/12), so hopefully it has enough legs to last until then. I'm really looking forward to it though, as I really liked MK:DA. Sure it's no Soul Calibur or DOA, but the MK games have always been fun to me, and it seems like they put a lot of effort into making MK:Deception.

I'm actually really looking forward to the chess, and puzzle games, and playing them online against people.

I agree about the chess & puzzle games online as well. Not to mention the original Mortal Kombat. This will probably be my only fighting game purchase this year unless DOAU hits a home run...

Did some trade-ins, so barring any unfortunate incidents, I'll be picking up MK:Deception tomorrow.

Problem is, since I pre-ordered it the day before it hits stores, they dont know if they'll get a copy of the Kollectors Edition in for me. If they dont, I'll just have to use the credit at a store that does have them in stock.

Another online fighting game for Xbox. Purchase of an Xbox is becoming more and more likely for me. Paying for a live subscription for playing online FPS when I have my PC doesn't seem like it has a point. But for online fighting games I may bite. Our arcade is gone (Barnes and Noble construction needed the space) and my only friend competent to play fighting games moved across the country.

Not a big MK fan, but I did rent the last MK and had fun with it. Plus, I have the GC version ($5 CC sale) although I haven't opened it.

Oh my goodness! It's finally here. I had found mk5.org (now mortalkombatonline.com) since right after Deadly Alliance was released and have checked their site every day since then. I have been so busy working 40 hours a week (at Wegmans) and going to school full time I don't have time for games unfortunately but I checked the site today and it hit, "Wow, is it already out?" I then went to EB's site and saw the luscious Kollectors Edition I had been reading/hearing about and saw that it had shipped.

Pretext : Ever since I was little I never felt it was proper to trade in anything that was purchased for me, as it had somewhat of a sentimental value to it, only my purchases were eligible to be traded in, but today I went all out. Trading in my Cube, and all 7 or 8 of my games (I had traded in a lot before, that I had bought), attempted to trade in my Dreamcast ($3 !!!forget that, Sonic 2, Rush, and OutTrigger were worth $5 combined), some miscellaneous stuff like remotes and I ended up with about $80. I bought the Kollector's Edition for XBOX and I don't even have a console yet/ I just couldn't wait for the recently announced Cube port next January, so I'll be picking up the box next payday (week from Friday).

It's odd, I'll now own an XBOX, a system I used to frown upon because the computer I built has better hardware, and would say the PS2 isn't for me because I hate Sony and that it's hardware was outdated (I'm a Nintendofile). Here's to changes!

Soon thereafter I'll be able to pay my broadband bill to get it back on so I can punish you all online. :)

Been with Midway since MK1! The fact Deception is so alike to MKII is currency!

Good times.

What is the difference between the original version and the SE?

The main reason to buy the SE is the inclusion of an emulated "arcade perfect" version of the original Mortal Kombat. I spent some time with it last night and the emulation is not 100% perfect (sound is far too low, some sound effects are off) but it is well done and IMHO worth the price to have a good version of MK (if you want something other than an emulated version on your PC etc.).

As far as online play, I played two matches last night. I won both :D . That was at almost 3:30am and I gotta tell ya, the game played smooth as butter (normal combat, no chess or puzzle). Deception is still an extremely combo heavy game that requires the right timing to get the bigger combo strings working. I had ZERO problems getting them off online.

The interface is what you would expect. All of the options you want are there including quick match, optimatch etc. Voice and text messaging is supported. The friends list is easily accessible. I only took a quick glance but everything looks to be setup nicely. The ability to turn off death traps is also welcome if you want to the game to come down to skill and not just who can punch who into the the environment.

Great game so far! The fighting engine is expanded somewhat from Deception but for the most part its almost identical. The combo breakers are unique and I like that they are limited use. The death traps are sweet, as are the multi-level environments (very DOA'ish). The AI in the game is vintage MK (ir really damn cheap and annoying at times). So far though I'm really liking it.

EDIT: For those worried about 480p performance, you shouldn't bother to. The slowdown that was prevelant in Deadly Alliance when you enable 480p has been corrected in Deception. The game runs perfectly in 480p.

I'm not seeing much love for MK:D as I thought I would, so I just thought I'd chime in.

It's a fantastic game. Much better than the previous effort (MK:Deadly Alliance) and just a hell of a lot of fun.

Online play was a blast (even with Romier kicking my ass 9 out of 10 times), and very smooth. I commented to him that it was just like playing someone in the same room. No lag, no delay, just copious amounts of bloodshed. The Live integration is beautiful. It's Live Aware, plus allows you to send voice messages.

I spent a lot of time last night playing Konquest mode, which despite the REALLY bad voice acting, is very fun, and a good tutorial on how to play the game. I was having a lot of fun doing these stupid quests in Konquest mode, and gaining "Koins" so I can use them in The Krypt to unlock stuff. There's a ton of unlockables, including I think 8-12 characters, and costumes as well as levels.

The levels are very well done as well. Lots of interaction with the environment. Plus ther3D renditions of some of the classic MK levels are very nice.

All in all, I'm enjoying it. The fighting system will take some getting used to again, but it's a solid title, that I think fans of MK will love, as well as anyone looking for a 3D fighting game playable online.
