General Zot
I know GTA: San Andreas will likely sell more copies due to the massive PS2 install base, but is Halo 2 the most anticipated game ever made? The presells just hit 1 million. This is a game that has gone platinum before it has even gone gold, the first ever to do so. Just amazing to think that if the xbox install base is 17 million xboxs or so (is that accurate?), that 1/17 xbox owners are going to buy Halo 2 ON LAUNCH DAY! Wow, that's pretty insane! If Xbox had the install base of PS2 (70 million), it theoretically could have gone triple platinum on launch day. That is just insane, no matter what this game is making MS's year. Here's to hoping that it is worth it (and it would be the first Bungie game in memory that wasn't worth it for me.)
dogbert
Halo 2 might have the preorders, but Take Two are still expecting to ship 4.5 million units of GTA:San Andreas to retail with preorders for it being higher than Vice City, according to Take Two's last quarterly report. Romier S
Microsoft chimes and says those preorder numbers are "premature and speculative" http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/10/06/news_6109802.html To wit: the story's report that over one million presales have been recorded for Halo 2 is "premature and speculative," said the Microsoft rep. Official numbers have preorders for the highly anticipated sequel at 750,000 units. Whether or not this constitutes "the highest presale in the history of video games" is also disputed. Some reports put preorders for 2002's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City at over four million, but Microsoft asserts that to its knowledge, the title "did not presell more than 1 [million] units." The discrepancy probably arises from the two different definitions of "preorder"--retailers' orders vs. customers' money being put down in advance
Camp
Here's to hoping that it is worth it (and it would be the first Bungie game in memory that wasn't worth it for me.) I guess you missed Oni then? It's my understanding Take 2 is planning an intentional shortage of San Andreas immediately after release. The initial shipments are supposed to cover pre-orders with some overflow. After that there will be a slow trickle of product for 3-4 weeks before massive amounts hit at the end of November. They did the same thing with Vice City. Get a lot out but not enough to totally satisfy demand. Let the press get a hold of the game's content and watch the free publicity create an even stronger desire for the game. Vice City became a cooler game because it was difficult to get for a short while. Halo, on the other hand, will be everywhere from the get go. I think Halo's initial impact will destroy San Andreas but the install base of the PS2 means the game will have legs for the long haul. Covak
I guess you missed Oni then? Oh, don't get me started on Oni. I've played through that several times and each time I enjoyed it more than I ever enjoyed Halo 1's single-player
General Zot
No, never played Oni. Looked pretty cool, was it bad? I'm thinking of Marathon 1-3 and Myth I&II specifically, each of those was a home run IMHO. I expect nothing less of Halo 2...
Kain rising
I really wanted to like Oni, but I couldn't get used to the control scheme. :?

You play it on PS2? I heard the controls were awkward with that version. Typical mouse and keyboard stuff on the PC though. I didn't know those Myth games were Bungie. They were pretty cool And Oni is cooler than it looks
Camp
The Myth games were fantastic. Still, I wasn't a fan of Oni (PC).

Maybe I ought to try and find a copy for the PC.
Kain rising
Preorders have hit the 1.5 million mark. TeamXbox Story If there's not much of a delay in these numbers, that means half a million presales in 2 about 2 weeks? Sounds impressive
Covak
You think the first pre-order number announcement made people think "Holy crap, I better go pre-order too!"?
