Jeremy's Boneyard Game Music Challenge IV

Welcome to the fourth entry into my (from now on) bi-weekly boneyard game music challenge! It will appear every second Sunday morning.

For those not familiar with how things work here, let me explain:

Starting with this (and subsequent challenges) there will be exactly five clips of music from consoles predating the current generation of systems. There will also be PC music clips here and there as well. These will only be from PC games that are over three years old.

I'll start off by not giving any hints (except the console which the song is from). I'll leave at this for 24 hours or so and check back. If a particular song is tripping you guys up, I'll help out a bit.

The quality of each song has been downgraded to save bandwidth but should be more than adequate for this purpose. My apologies for any hiss that may be present. Keep in mind some of these were recorded ten years ago using very primitive methods.

If you think you know an answer, please don't post the name of the song right away. Do something like this:

Song #1 - 100% sure

Song #2 - Pretty sure

Song #3 - No idea

Song #4 - Pretty sure

This will provide an opportunity for everyone who reads to give it a shot without fear of reading the answer. It will also be a gauge for me to see how people are doing. Also, I won't be dispensing any hints via PMs for a while.

Lastly (for anyone still reading!), I have come up with a difficulty system that I think will work well. Each challenge will increase in difficulty. I have rated each song's difficulty out of 5 (with 1 being very easy and 5 being on the brink of impossible). The number is in square brackets beside the system.

Alright, enough talk. Let's get it on!

-------------------------------------------

Song #1 - SNES [4]

Song #2 - PSX [3]

Song #3 - SNES [2]

Song #4 - PSX [3]

Song #5 - SNES [5]

Difficulty Total = 17

-------------------------------------------

Good Luck (especially with #5). Colour me impressed if you get it. :green:

JEREMY YOU KICK ASS! :green:

Beyond the obvious greatness of these challenges, I played so much of game #3 as a kid that the song really brought a huge smile to my face, good choice :tu:.

Song #1 - No clue. It's nibbling at my brain, I think I've played the game, but have no ideas.

Song #2 - Oh, I might have an inkling :green:. As Castlevania is to Romier...

Song #3 - 100% Sure

Song #4 - Nada

Song #4 - I could hazard a guess but I think it's way off base given what you've told us ;)

#2 - Resident Evil 2 (the safe rooms)

#3 - Rock N' Roll Racing (Born To Be Wild, duh!)

#4 - Tomb Raider II (Tomb Raider Theme - a really nice version of it)

#5 - Super Off Road - major congrats to Cameron on this one!

Next Challenge: Sunday, October 31

1. No Idea

2. Resident Evil

Like Mark, Im not sure of which one. I was thinking of RE2 (it sounds too good for RE1), but the music sounds alot like the GC remake to me.

3. Rock and Roll Racing

I've never played this, but it was the only logical answer I could think of (what other SNES-era game had a licensed song in it!?).

4. Tomb Raider

Not sure of this one either, even more unsure of which Tomb Raider it is (I'm thinking it's the first one).

5. SUPER OFF ROAD

Jeremy, have you ever thought about taking the answers via PM, and then keep a list of everyone's running point total? You could maybe start the points over here and there with different sessions to let others jump in with a fresh start or just do it week by week. Just an idea i had, as there is nothing wrong with what you are doing now!

Great thoughts, Cameron. I'm definitely open to changing things to make things more competitive and interesting. I'll devise something for next time - a points system like you mentioned probably then have a prize at the end for the winner.
