Carlucci
I've never tried any of the Energy drinks on the market. I never really felt I had to since I don't sleep much anyway. But for Halo 2, I'll be playing pretty much around the clock for the first few days, and I want to stay as sharp as possible, so I'm considering buying an energy drink or two. So give me some recommendations. Which energy drink is best? Do they really work? Are they worth the money? Which flavor? etc.... Carlos. Thrillho
I've pretty much stuck to Red Bull or Amped(mountain dew energy drink) I like Amped better but to be honest, I find they work for a quick burst but wear off rather quickly, and there's so much caffiene they sometimes give me a headache. I drink them every now and then pretty much cause I like the taste, not to give me a boost; or I'm out and having a red bull and vodka(which are awesome). If your just trying to stay awake, go buy a two litter bottle of Mountain Dew, just as effective and alot cheaper, and the 2 liter bottle will last alot longer. Plus code red Mountain Dew kicks a$$. Whooter
Although it's l33t, and therefore not actually that cool, I like Bawls. Mountain Dew is my usual poison, though.
dogbert
Do they really work? Are they worth the money? They'll give you shortterm boosts ala caffiene as that's principally what they're made of. Are they worth the money? I don't think so, though Red Bull & Vodka, as much as a cliche as it is now, is damn good Go light on the coffee/coke a couple of days beforehand, and just drink lots of Mountain Dew or coffee
Camp
red bull and vodka(which are awesome). Yes they are. Get drunk and be wired at the same time. Carefull though, it's easy to not realize how drunk you actually are. I've seen quite a few people drinking small vials of what is supposed to be pure liquid ginsing. This appears to be all the rage around here right now. I'm not exactly sure where these small vials are sold but I'm told they sell for about $2 and are extremely potent. iainl
Red Bull and Vodka is rubbish if you're not adding the Tequila. TVRs are quality rush drinks. Liable to turn you into an insane idiot if you're not careful, however. Rather like their namesake, then.
adamsappel
If you can find Jolt, it certainly does the trick. Terrible soda, but it's like mainlining caffeine.
matt
Although I don't drink soda, I like Red Bull if I need wings. For me it works well and has a fairly lasting effect. It's about a 6 1/2 hour drive to visit either one of my parents and I'll make the drive with one stop half way, take a leak and have a Red Bull, then I'm good to go. My wife on the other hand is a Diet Coke fanatic, but she'll drink Red Bull if she studying for a test. Seems to help her out. Might just be psychological though. secretvampire
Red Bull and Vodka is rubbish if you're not adding the Tequila. There is this stuff called Sparks that a friend of mine gets up north in Ohio when he's there on business that is kind of the same thing. It tastes good, and late into the night makes me feel like a superhero or something hahah. I limit myself to one though, otherwise I just feel wierd the next day. Josh
Coffee. Careful with the energy drinks - they're loaded with sugars. Also, be sure to drink water - caffeine is a diuretic, and if you plan on being up longer than usual you can end up very dehydrated.
JohnEBGood
I really like the Sobe with the red on the can. It has a hint of grapefruit and wakes you right up. Great for driving.
Starhawk
Careful with the energy drinks - they're loaded with sugars. Red Bull has an awesome Sugar Free version, but it's alot harder to find. The can is a lighter blue color.
CaptainRon
red bull, vodka and champagne might as well be rocket fuel
JoeyN
Lots of Coffee. Stick with a classic
Cyberwoo
I am drinking a Red Bull right now as a matter of fact. I usually pick up a 4 pack every week and have 1 before work with whatever I'm eating. Do they work? I seem to notice a little energy boost. They also sell these small little high concentrated "drinks" in the health bar/drink isle. I hesitate to call them drinks because they are literraly the size of a shot. One gulp and they be gone. Forget what they are called but they are packed full of stuff. There is a mango flavor as well as some kind of berry. I used to down one of those before playing basketball in the morning. Again I'm not sure how well they work but I always seemed to notice I had a bit more energy when would drink em. Maybe its all in my head. -Mike
Mark E
Some people are going to be more sensitive to caffeine anyway. I have had Jolt many times and it does SFA to me, I really don't feel any different except realizing I spent money on a soft drink that tastes like crap . Mind you, I've been off heavily caffeinated beverages for several years now, so a Jolt would probably knock me flat these days .
rustyjaw
I agree with Joey, coffee really is the best. I've attended more than my share of (for lack of a better term) 'raves' and while Red Bull works, it doesn't seem any better than coffee to me, and has a more severe drop-off when it wears off. Coffee has the added benefit of being a heck of a lot cheaper (if you make it at home). I used to bring a thermos of coffee with me to outdoor events and it really did the trick at around the 3-4am sleep-deprivation zone. One thing to note about coffee is that the darker the roast, the less caffeine it has, caffeine literally gets burned out of the beans. EDIT: I will add that getting extra rest the day before you plan on staying up makes a HUGE difference with or without the caffeine boost, you will feel much sharper and more alert if you can manage to get a few extra hours of sleep. Cyberwoo
Ya coffee definately does the trick. I regularly drink flavored mochas during my work week with either a triple or quad shot. I spend too much money on the damn stuff though. Drive thru Starbucks are evil.
Thrillho
The one bad note about coffee, for those who don't drink it regularly, it can and has been quite a laxative, so watch out!!!
