Blockbuster DVD trade-in

Recommended Posts

I just heard a radio commercial that said that you can now trade your old DVD's in a Blockbuster. It went on to say that for a limited time, you are guaranteed at least $8 store credit for EVERY DVD you bring in, and the credit is good for "anything in the store".

If I heard right, you can definitely pick up some junk titles elsewhere and then trade them to Blockbuster for a major profit.

There is nothing on the website yet. Anyone know the details on this?

**Just please don't be an A-hole and try to scam them to hell. That is what makes these things go away permanently.

Looks like they are picky about which titles they'll take as a trade anyway. I saw a thread where someone talked to a manager and the titles they accept have to be something they would likely carry in the store, so the total junk titles won't cut it.

We don't have any Game Rush adjacent stores in Houston that I know of, but our blockbuster sell used/new games.

I'm planning to take 10 of my old movies today and get some credit. Might pick up MK:D and another game that way!

No....no, we do not and it makes me sad. Dallas has a TON of them, I try to take advantage of their incredible trade-in deals when I go up to visit friends every few months. I just wish they would get some stores here!!!

They get titles on street date, too.

Well, I dumped a bunch of my old movies (my kids too) and got over $200 on a gift card at Blockbuster. Problem is, there are no quality game titles for sale in any of the Houston area Blockbusters.

But I just called Game Rush in Dallas, and they said they take Blockbuster gift cards as payment there. Woo-Hoo!

So now I need another excuse to go to Dallas before Christmas.

They'll take all major studio (MGM, Sony, Warner, Paramount, Disney, etc) movies. Most TV shows, even old A&E single disc stuff like The Avengers and Monty Python (and ADV's Farscape). Typically no music titles or public-domain titles, though at certain locations with certain managers you might get them to take some things that aren't 'in the computer'.

If you have them make you a gift card (instead of a 'value' card), you can use it on the website.

I traded $320 worth of DVDs a couple of weeks ago. Used it to preorder my Nintendo DS at another location with GameRush, and are using it for various other game titles over the next couple of months.

I think that the deal ends, at least locally, on 11/1.

I have never been a fan of the whole Trade in deal of any kind.. In fact I have never used the Trade in at any store until the other day.

With the knowledge of the deal passed on by Bryan I was able to really take advantage. (Thank you, to the one and only GAME RUSH PUSHER I KNOW) :)

I traded in about 15 old games and walked out of Blockbuster with about $130 + the tax (which was non transferable so I picked up Master and Commander for $12 or so).

The same games were quoted by EB at about $85 and that was with a $10 bonus for every three games. That can?t beat the $5 per game bonus plus a better overall price per game at BB. Thanks for the two cents and the game rush endorsements.. :)

I rarely do trade-ins either, but took advantage of this to clear our DVD shelves a little. Over the years, we've bought a lot of stuff that we shouldn't have just because it was cheap, or we watched it once & never again etc. So took a pile a down to our local BlockBuster, they took 12 out of the 20 I took in (no Troma, no "public domain" type stuff), and got a nice $96 gift card in return.
