adamsappel
Well, right now I've got the consoles hooked up to a 13" tv via RF cable, but on the big screen I do use the Nintendo component cables for the GC. A much nicer picture, even if you don't have progressive scan, and if you do they look great! I think there's a tri-console VGA adapter, but don't know who makes it. Starhawk
I play the Cube with Component Cables. There are alot of games that take advantage of progressive scan, but even if they don't the Cube still looks great through component. I'm not sure about the VGA cable, but I don't think one is available.
Starhawk
How's that for 2 similarly vague responses?
adamsappel
I win! Tri-console VGA box. GameCube cable also works with SNES and N64.
Buck
I win! Tri-console VGA box. GameCube cable also works with SNES and N64. That's not a true VGA adapter. The only one for the Cube that I'm aware of is the component hack. It just so happens that I have a copy of the instructions for the mod, and being the Lord of the Server and all, I decided to be a nice guy and host it for you 8) VGA Mod Oh, and Camp, incase you are reading this, the link is right above what you are reading right now
The Daisy
I'm playing my Gamecube with my Component cables and I haven't had any issues with any games thus far. As for VGA stuff... I'm in the dark on that. Glen
Mark E
Ah, what really rots my socks is that the Cube component cables are only available from the Big N themselves. Which means I have to order the damn things from the U.S. to get them, which means horrid exchange rates and other whiny crap. Shame too, as I have a prog.scan flat-screen here that would really look nice with component Cube games, though admittedly it doesn't look too shabby through the S-video cable. Graeme
Mark, if you want a component Cable, let me know. I live quite close to Nintendo of Canada HQ, and they sell them there. I just called (since I need one also) and they're $37 CND plus tax (14.5% in BC). I was also given the 800 number (800-255-3700) which is the same as in the US, but it might direct to the Canadian office which would avoid exchange and customs headaches. The website is US only of course.
Mark E
Heh, neat, we only have 0.5% higher tax than you . I will definitely keep that offer in mind, thanks. It'll be a bit later in the year before I can scrape the cash together thanks to my books and tuition right now, but I would definitely like to get those before the year is out. iainl
While we're on the subject, does anyone know if the PAL Cube works with component cables? I'm hoping to get the Wife Acceptance Factor up to a good enough level to buy a nice big screen (either LCD projector or Plasma, depending on if I can figure out a way to make a projector fit into my setup), and component out would be much more convenient than the RGB Scart I use right now
heavy liquid
Yeah, it bugged me that I had to order the component cables direct from Nintendo, instead of being able to run over to Best Buy and pick it up. But the other thing that bugs me is having to hold down the 'B' button in order to enable progressive scan! I wish they had some kind of menu setting like XBOX, or it could auto detect if you were using component. I was playing without enabling p-scan for 2 months before I found out about the 'B' button! F-Zero does look amazing with components, tho... -Erik
Starhawk
But the other thing that bugs me is having to hold down the 'B' button in order to enable progressive scan! Don't forget that you only need to hold down B once and it will remember that setting unless you disable it, or do something like play your Gamecube on another TV with another cable other than the component. heavy liquid
Ah, good to know! Too bad the cables didn't come with a pamphlet. Of course, lately I've been taking it to my friend's house for matches of Mario Golf. The difference between Hi-Def and Non Hi-Def TV's is really noticeable; everything seems really fuzzed out on his TV. -Erik
JFo
heavy liquid:Yeah, it bugged me that I had to order the component cables direct from Nintendo, instead of being able to run over to Best Buy and pick it up. That is kind of a pain. However, I was over at Gamestop last weekend and I saw a set of used GameCube component video cables on sale for a mere $8. I snatched them up and gave them to a friend who has a Cube, and just recently acquired a Mitsubishi 48" HDTV. He was most happy, I assure you. Beer Monkey
What irks me is that digital audio DOES exist on the digital a/v port. It is 48khz PCM, and can be converted to digital TOSLINK or coax. OK, that's not what irks me. What irks me is that the component cable does not convert/output the digital audio. That's a no-brainer. heavy liquid
I think it may vary. But when I ordered mine, I got it within a week. I was surprised at how quickly it came, because I was fully expecting it to take a while.

JFo
Oh I see how it is You weren't supposed to read that, boy. I thought about giving them to you, but since I technically owed that guy a GameCube for his exploits in Super Monkey Ball 2, and since he does have a 48" Mitsubishi HDTV, I figured he needed them more than you. So, nyah! (Just in case any of you are confused, Bobbio and I have been good friends since high school.)

FLYING SE7EN
But the other thing that bugs me is having to hold down the 'B' button in order to enable progressive scan! Don't forget that you only need to hold down B once and it will remember that setting unless you disable it, or do something like play your Gamecube on another TV with another cable other than the component. I just picked up a platinum Cube today and I also just ordered component cables from Nintendo. I looked in the manual and there was no description of how to enable progressive scan. Can someone tell me what the procedure is? Thanks. J.
iainl
I don't have one to hand, but I believe all you need to do is hold down 'B' the first time you try to load a game that can do progressive, and it'll ask you if you want to turn it on.
