How can I get my avatar to look better? I can barely see Stewie.

Scale the image down in an imaging program like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. Letting a browser scale a 750x500 pixel image down to a 100 pixel image is guaranteed to look shitty.

Plus, I think it's way over the file size limit.

Also, even if you choose to save it as a gif, increase the color depth to max before resizing.

Thanks for the input. :)

Let's say that you're talking to someone who doesn't have a clue about how to do what you're describing. :green:

I have Photoshop 6 running on a Mac and I'm a total newbie when dealing with Photoshop and images. Hell, I don't even qualify as a newbie yet. ;)

Can you guys (or gals) break it down for me? :?

In Photoshop, open the original image, then use Image size the scale it down the the size you need.

In the case of the 2nd one, I scaled the height down to 105 and kept the proportions the same. For the first one I scaled the Width.

Then I simply used Canvas Size to get the width down to 105, which automatically croped the edges off for me. In the first I used Canvas size to expand the height to 105 which added a bit of white.

Then use Save for Web to compare what color and dither options look best for the fize size you need, and save as a GIF.
