Brute Force w/Halo 2 DVD

I just notices Gamestop.com is offering a Halo 2 preview DVD with purchase of Brute Force. Amazon has no mention of this (EBgames.com was down at the time).

Does anyone know if the DVD will come with all copies of Brute Force? -or is it just selected retailers? I prefer buying @ my local brick & mortar but will make an exception if online is the only way to get the DVD.

Oh well...I finally got into EBgames.com and just pre-ordered it. I guess that's the only way to be sure I'll get the Halo 2 DVD.

Anyone have experience with EBgames shipping? Any chance I'll get it on release day?

Well, I got it today.

The Halo 2 DVD is worthless. It's the trailer they released last year. There are some in-engine movies from two points in Halo's development that are kind of neat. Beyond that, blah.

Brute Force seems OK so far. I'm only on the 2nd level (and lost already) so I can't comment too much. Haven't had much use for the squad control yet but it seems intuitive.

I have to wonder if they chose the 3rd person perspective just to be different than Halo? My only initial impression is that the game would control better as a FPS. Aiming is a bit difficult, but I'm sure that's just an early impression.

The graphics are nice but now jaw dropping so. I'll need to spend some more time before I really form any opinions.

OK...I played it for another hour or so and I'm kind of underwhelmed. It is kind of cool to switch characters every now and then but the enemies have dumb AI, the level design is average and the story is a typical "who cares, just give me stuff to shoot at" variety.

Someone stuck it on in our lunchroom this morning... And it seems to have thoroughly unimpressed people. Haven't seen anything other than the "Tree" level (which reminds me bigtime of Draconus...).

So far, colour me unimpressed. It may shine in coop etc, but that's worthless for me. I really want to play it for a good long session at home to really judge it... I haven't seen anything that makes me want to drop $50 on it though.

I think a lot of folk that have been talking it up as the second coming have, frankly, been talking out their collective arse :)

It's no Viewtiful Joe!

I've noticed that those who have been really talking it up and giving it great reviews are the Xbox only press/crowd, where as the rest of the media is calling it pretty average.

I'm really enjoying it so far. But of course I'm only on the second level, and have only played it for a half hour or so.

I like the single player so far, and I can only imagine doing system link for co-op play. I'll probably try and do that this weekend if I get a chance.

  • 2 months later...

I finished the game yesterday -- there are several aspects of "Brute Force" I really like, but they aren't built into a particularly good game. I'd rank it as "pretty good, I guess", but that's not really the sort of enthusiasm that warrants a $50 expenditure. It'd be a decent purchase, I'd say, priced at $29.99 and if you had a friend or two to hop in on co-op mode, but otherwise, I wouldn't bother with anything more than a rental.
