GameCube

Hey there Ben. Moving this topic over to the Gamecube forums. You'll get some good infgo from Star, Pharm and a few others there.

As for the Gamecube. Whether or not is worth it is really entirely up to you. Know that when you buy a Gamecube you buy it for Nintendo's exellent first party titles and a handful of exclusives ala Rogue Squadron,, Viewtiful Joe and the Resident Evil series. For 99 bucks I find the money to be well worth it as the Nintendo titles alone are for the most part excellent and deserve a play through by any gamer.

Besides how can you *NOT* want Viewtiful Joe! :D

I'll say yeah too. I consider Nintendo a niche console these days, but it's well worth the price for the games that you can only get on the Cube. I would consider it worth it for Metroid and RE alone, but fortunately there are other gems out there as well. Good luck deciding.

Here is my two cents:

I bought the systems in this order: PS2->GC->XBox. Looking back, I wish I had bought the XBox MUCH earlier. If I had bought the XBox before the Gamecube, I don't think I would have ever bought a gamecube. Since this seems to be the boat you are in, I guess you have to ask yourself how much you want to play the Nintendo only titles. I had tons of fun with Animal Crossing, Metroid, and Zelda...but my Gamcube mostly just sits there. And I have had this looming feeling that it has seen its best days...

So, If you really want to play the exclusive titles, I say go for it. On the other hand, there are so many quality Ps2 and Xbox titles that you can get for $99...

Hey Ben,

Without getting into a long list of games I think justify purchasing a Gamecube, I'd probably just ask you if you like typical Nintendo franchises and Resident Evil. You'd be able to play all the updated greats like The Legend of Zelda: WW, Metroid Prime, F-Zero, and Super Mario Sunshine. Every Resident Evil game is here, and one of my favorite games for the Cube is the remake of the original RE. Later down the line RE4 will be released and that one already looks awesome.

Plus the Cube has alot of unique titles like Ikaruga, Pikmin, Eternal Darkness, Animal Crossing, and Super Monkey Ball. Some may challenge me on this, but I think the Cube has better (and more) exclusive games that any other system.

But, to tell you the truth, I'm less interested in the future of the Cube even with stuff like the new Star Wars Rogue Leader, Mario Kart: DD, Killer 7, and Viewtiful Joe. These games look great but there's usually always more coming down the line, but I'm just not seeing it right now.

If that doesnt bother you, you still have all the games mentioned above to check out, and I'm sure other people here will give their recommendations as well. Wait a month and Cube might be $99.

I've never regretted buying my Cube. I have to admit it's my least-played system, but it gets high marks for unique games. Super Monkey Ball is a classic, I still play it. Metroid Prime is amazing, even unheralded games like Beach Spikers make the system worth having. I say go for it.

I really enjoy everything about the Cube. From the exclusive games, the small discs and the nice controllers. Everything about the console screams quality to me. While I may buy more games for the Xbox, I've only traded back 3 games on the Cube, compared to 4x's that on the Xbox. I think that says something.

Also, the Gameboy Player is a nice addition and opens up a huge library of games to choose from. Go for it.

Most people have said the relevant bits, but I believe the Cube is an excellent secondary console. I'm not disappointed at all with the performance I've gotten from it and I would still have bought it over the X-Box and PS2 if I had the time back (though I want an X-Box too).

As noted, the reason is simple: the Cube has the best first-party software. Exclusives may be better depending on your taste (damn you all for playing KOTOR :P) but Nintendo has an awesome stable of first-party and second-party support that you're thus far simply not going to be able to match on other systems (we'll see how Rare's first round of X-Box games turn out ;)).

If you ever do face-to-face multiplayer it's a no-brainer. Super Smash Bros: Melee was the first game I bought with my Cube and I've sunk well over fifty hours into it battling against friends. Super Monkey Ball is another great multiplayer title, ditto Mario Golf.

Then you have the excellent single player titles such as Resident Evil 1 & 0, Eternal Darkness (Both RE and ED are cheap right now, making them must-have titles imho, RE is worth it for the graphics alone), Zelda: Wind Waker, and the superlative Metroid Prime.

Beyond that, there are a ton of new games to look forward to, from my perspective. We've got the recent F-Zero GX, Viewtiful Joe, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, Pikmin II, Rogue Squadron III, Donkey Konga (if you like rhythm games), Resident Evil 4, possibly another Zelda title, and two Cube-exclusive RPGs from Namco. Plus the remake of Metal Gear Solid by Silicon Knights. And that's just the exclusive software.

I don't want to sound too much like a huckster, but realistically, the wealth of exclusive titles would, to me, warrant picking up the system alone. Doubly so since you have other systems available to you should you find the release of titles a bit lagging (I personally don't, but I don't have as much money or time for gaming as I'd like these days). It's a plain fact though that I have more titles for my GameCube than I have had for any other system minus the PSOne. And of course as one of the forum mods it should be pretty clear I have interest in the system ;).

Hope that helps :).

GameCube, Worth purchasing this late in the game?

Well, I figure there are more excellent games available for the Cube than ever at this point, so I would say yes!

Take a good look at what's available for the system and what's to come. If you like what you see, I say go for it. Even though I own both an Xbox and a Cube, I still play the Cube more than the Box.

I am a multi console owner also, and absolutely adore my Cube. The majority of my gaming is done on the Xbox, but for many single player games I go for the Cube version. I love the WaveBird, love the Nintendo exclusives, and also love to give the Box a rest from time to time.

I play NCAA 2004 and Tiger Woods on the Cube and really enjoy them. EA left a glitch or two in NCAA for the Xbox sound-wise this year, so I really don't mind Cubing it. Fastest 0 - 60 of all three consoles too!

If it had Gamecube Live, I'd probably play it more than my Box.

Ain't that the truth! There are so many games for the Cube that would be perfect for online gaming: Mario Golf/Party/Kart/Tennis, the Super Monkey Balls, Beach Spikers, Animal Crossing, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and that's just the exclusives.

I bought my systems in the GC/PS2/XBox order. If I knew then what I know now I would make my purchases in this order: XBox/GC and maybe PS2. So you can count me in as someone who finds the Cube a necessary console for gaming. I won't go through all the great games because a lot of them are listed here. But two older titles not mentioned you should definitely look into are Luigi's Mansion and Wave Race. I'm sure they're great steals at this point in time and are still an important part of my collection.

Game on,

Pieter

In my humble opinion, the GameCube is a worthy purchase. There are more than enough exclusives for it to make it worthwhile.

While I wouldn't agree that if it was online - I'd be playing it more than my Xbox - I would agree that the GC is screaming for more of those type of games.

And this topic has inspired me to create another poll :)

Go check it out!

I'll add to this statement by saying that when there is a multi-console, single-player game coming out, I usually choose the GC version. While many may frown on this, I just prefer the comfort of the GC controller over the XB controller and improved graphics. If graphics aren't too drastic a difference, comfort (I have relitavely small hands) take presidence over slightly improved visuals. If they ARE a drastic difference, then, that's another story. Otherwise, make mine Nintendo. Besides, the Waverbird has to be the best wireless controller. Period!

My cube is a secondary console in a secondary room. I bought my Gamecube because I KNEW I would play Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. Aside from these few games I obsessively played until finished, I do not touch my Gamecube. Sure my XBOX is also used for obsessive play (Halo, KOTOR, Baldur's Gate, etc.), but the bulk of my time is spent on more casual gaming (most XBlive games).
