Mark E
Has anybody tried the SWAT 4 open beta they have going over on FilePlanet? I have a key and haven't bothered downloading the client yet, but I like the idea of 4-player co-op close-quarters combat. Just curious if anybody else has actually d/l'd and checked it out
Romier S
I'd be willing to give it a whirl Mark. We can always hop on Teamspeak and coordinate our efforts. I also recently downloaded and played the Chaos Theory beta from Fileplanet as well. Still haven't played that but I did install it today. Mark E
Sounds like a plan. I'll have to set the actual file to d/l tonight because it's rather bloody big and last time it got halfway through before my net connection crapped out. The Chaos Theory one is only available to paying FilePlanet users though, no? Or did I read that wrong?
Chris F
If it's a beta for people who aren't FilePlanet members, then I'll give it a try tonight. I loved the last SWAT incarnation. It was a hell of a lot of fun.
Mark E
If it's a beta for people who aren't FilePlanet members, Well, you have to have a FilePlanet login, but you don't have to be a paying customer. I just have a login for downloading purposes and you are allowed to ask for a CD key. Then you just have to d/l the client off FilePlanet. :tu

When I get home tonight I'll download it and give it a try. I'm looking forward to checking it out. The screens look very good indeed. Mark E
Cool. I'll be out a little late tonight, but should be back around 11-ish if you guys are on, otherwise we'll plan for later . I'll be downloading (hopefully) while I'm out. Hurrah for close-quarters combat .
Tranquility
Downloading the SWAT 4 beta right now as well.
Mark E
Gah, something is fubar with FilePlanet for me. For some reason the little download window is constantly crapping out and not responding in IE. Anybody else have this problem? I've tried three times this weekend to get the game downloaded and it hasn't worked once.
Eldorado
I am currently waiting in line for this. Anyone have any thoughts on the game? Sean Edit: BTW, Firefox had no problems with the download window.
Mark E
Grr, thanks. I normally have no trouble with GameSpy but it's been frying the browser with a lock-up all the time. I'm rather bummed about starting this thread and now being unable to play the bloody game
Rob B
I got it DL the Demo that is. my puter sorta runs it
Eldorado
It's very slow paced, as I'm sure it's supposed to be. It is pretty though. Sean
Romier S
Mark, I can upload the client onto the LCVG server for you, I can send you the link via PM that we can keep the bandwidth down. Sound good?
Mark E
That would be damn nice of you, Romier. I didn't want to ask because of bandwidth, but I'd appreciate it. I just love sitting in the queue for two hours then having it die 90 minutes in .
Romier S
PM sent Mark. The first one I sent has an incorrect link so disregard it. The second one has the correct link and is uploading at the moment. Enjoy. :tu If anyone else is having serious problems with Fileplanet I can supply you the link as well but I'll have to limit it to 3 folks at the most right now. Ryan FB
I played a few rounds tonight. Overall, it feels clumsy and slow, and I don't think I'll be getting the full version. However, if the LCVG crew wants to get together sometime for a couple games, I'd be up for it.
Mark E
Hmm, thanks for the impressions Ryan. I got the file from Romier (thanks!) and can install whenever. Tonight I have a monster research protocol to rewrite, so anybody feel up to some action tomorrow night, say 10-ish EST? I'm fine with whenever, provided it isn't TOO late . What are the multiplayer options like in terms of max # of players, etc etc?
Cyberwoo
I'd be glad to hook up with some of you for some games tomarrow night. I played some last night and quit because some idiot kept killing the VIP on purpose. The goal for the SWAT guys is to escort the VIP to the roof of a 5 or 6 story building all the while fending off a team of terrorists who's goal is to capture the VIP and hold him captive for 2 minutes. If the SWAT guys accidently kill the VIP then the terrorists win and vise versa. Well some idiot thought he was being funny by joining the SWAT side and purposely killing the VIP at the start of every round. Anyway the game seemed decent enough to give another shot. I'm not sure about a couple things but I'd like to at least play with some people that aren't asshats to make a better judgement of the game. Let me know if you guys plan on playing tomarrow. I can get 1 more guy to play as well if need be. It can hold up to 16 players btw (ala Rainbow Six). -Mike
Mark E
Well I'm a lock for tomorrow. I'll have my work tonight finished (or I'll be shot, no joke ) and nothing pressing I can't do beforehand, so yippee-ki-yay.
Ryan FB
I should be able to make it tomorrow night as well.
Ryan FB
I just now realized I'd forgotten about this. It is a bit late, so I'm guessing we're going to postpone to a later date?
Mark E
Hehe, so it would seem . Sorry, nobody else said anything so I wasn't expecting us to get together. I ended up being bogged down with work again tonight anyway.
Romier S
I've been playing off and on for the past few days. I have to agree that the game plays a tad too slow for my tastes. Once you get the hang of the inventory and what not, the "clunkiness" mentioned starts to go away. I'd love to hop on a good server with you guys. Maybe Wednesday or Thursday night? I can start a thread up in the Online Gaming area and we can coordinate. I'll have to get you guys the Teamspeak info too so we can chat. :tu
Romier S
Anyone get to play the single player demo of SWAT4? The multiplayer demo was decent but nothing that made me want to run right out and buy the game. The single player though is freaking fantastic! The squad commands are awesome and plentiful. I like the more personal tone the game has as opposed to your run of the mill PC squad shooter. These are smaller scal skirmishes but it's neat to see your squad yelling at a criminal to put his gun down. The criminal doesn't always comply so there is a bit of tension in just witnessing what will happen. The briefing sessions before you actually get in-game are very authentic (you can even listen to the 911 calls.). There are still AI pathing problems with your squadmates but overall, I think I've decided to pick this up. Runs really nicely on my comp too.
