dogbert
Oooh! Good idea! I'll sign up tonight. My problem is I always vote with my heart & not with my brain on these kind of things.
HoolieMan
Ok, I'm in. I made my selections. (for now). I really haven't seen that many movies in the theater this year so it is hard to say on a lot of them. I guess I am just too deep into the DVD world that I forget you can watch these movies before the magical tuesday comes around and they show up in stores everywhere. Romier S
Signed up and my selections are in. Some of the them are, as Brian mentioned, from the heart. I'm hoping Eternal Sunshine picks up a few wins. Especially for Winslet who I thought was exceptional.
AnthonyVolpe
I'm abstaining from this because I realized I don't see enough movies to warrant participation here. :wtf
ChoiceStriker
Ooh, these are always fun. A little competition always makes the show more exciting. I haven't seen several of the nominees, so my picks will be guesses based on what I've heard from the critics. This year's show should be more interesting than last year's for the sheer variety of nominees. Sure, LOTR got its due, but it wasn't all that fascinating to watch the show, in my opinion. Good lord. I just had a closer look at that list. Shark Tale? Shark Tale?! Come on now.
Jordan_E
I'm in, and it saddens me that I've only seen really 3 of all the movies nominated! But there is a lot of time between now and Oscar night to go.

Ricky G
...possibly win some prizes ... Right! How 'bout the the prize is the "right to complain that the site is cheap and never gives away any prizes"? Before anyone gets in a huff, keep in mind that I never have expected anything of this site or it's owners. The site alone is good enough for me. If it ever becomes a paid site, though, I want some cashish awards once in awhile!
Romier S
Before anyone gets in a huff, keep in mind that I never have expected anything of this site or it's owners. I'm actually working on a new contest Ricky. So there will be some prizes given away soon. We haven't done an official contest since the Ed Wood giveaway and I'm working out something cool for the next one. Stay Tuned on that front. For a site without ads or fees, contests are not something that one would ever expect to see. Thanks again for your hard work and providing a cool hangout for game geeks like myself. :tu

GreenMonkey
I feel so lost without a LOTR film to vote for. Leading Actor Eh I guess I'll vote for Clint Eastwood. Didn't see any of these (I don't think so, at least) Supporting Actor Clive Owen - Closer Leading Actress Catalina Sandino Moreno - As much as I love Eternal Sunshine, I have to vote for her performance in Maria Full of Grace here Supporting Actress Cate Blanchett (I didn't even see the movie, but Galadriel gets my vote Natalie Portman did a good job in Closer but gotta vote for the Elf Queen Animated Incredibles WTF, no anime to vote for (not that it would ever win)? I don't like Disney but I am OK with Pixar, so, how about The Incredibles (at least it had super heroes) Art Direction A Very Long Engagement. Crazy CGI, paint, etc rectreation of post-war Europe Cinematography A Very Long Engagement Costume Design Choose one for me at random Directing: Sideways Documentary: The only one I saw was Supersize me, but Oscar worthy? No vote here, random. Short Doc: Random Film Editing: Ditto Foreign Language Film Ditto (Where is a very long engagement? Must not have been good enough). Fine. Then WHERE IS MARIA FULL OF GRACE? Crackfiends. Makeup: How about Lemony Snicket. It's almost fantasy (not that I saw it). Original Score: I'll go with Harry Potter. Original Song: Motorcyle diaries, I guess. Whatever. Where is my LOTR to vote for ?? Best Picture: Sideways (Write in vote: Eternal Sunshine, dammit) Short Film animated: ? Short Film, live: ? Sound Editing: Spider Man 2 Sound Mixing: Spider Man 2 Visual Effects Harry Potter. As long as I, Robot doesn't win anything I will be happy Screenplay, adapted Before Sunset Screenplay, original ETERNAL SUNSHINE Notice I loved Eternal Sunshine. I almost asked my wife to take me to see it again in the theater. The only movies I repeat see in the theater was LOTR. Eternal Sunshine was my favorite movie in a long time (except Fellowship of the Ring. Nothing is better than Fellowship ) In under greenmkyd on the oscar page. dogbert
Foreign Language FilmDitto (Where is a very long engagement? Must not have been good enough). Fine. Then WHERE IS MARIA FULL OF GRACE? Crackfiends. Maria Full of Grace is an American produced film. The Foreign Language category is an odd category where the relevant film body from each nation is allowed to nominate one film produced/funded & released in the correct year in their nation. A Very Long Engagement is classed as an American film as proven in French courts due to a large part of its costs being covered by US companies. I'm actually more interested in this year's Oscars because there's no LOTR.
GreenMonkey
Ah Technicalities. Thanks dogbert.
dogbert
You're welcome. The Best Foreign Film category seems to cause messageboard chatter every single year, so I read up on the rules behind it one year so I could come off as a wiseass on it. Romier S
Having just seen Million Dollar Baby, I'm going to have to move my prediction for Best Actress over to Hilary Swank. Let it be known that I am not a fan of her work in general. She actually kind of puts me off in some of the roles she has done but the woman had me in absolute tears during that movie and her performance was breathtaking. Same for the directors category. Though my thinking was that the Academy would give Marty his due for Aviator (and they still may), Eastwood's work with MDB is just too good not to get the award IMHO. I may actually move my nomination for best picture over as well....
GreenMonkey
Yeah, my wife got me to go see Million Dollar Baby. Talk about a heartbreaker. Another excellent directing job from Mr. Eastwood, who apparently has learned an awful lot about people during his eon on earth and in the film biz. Here at work I changed a couple of my votes to MDB...but I left actress alone, I must vote for anything Eternal Sunshine. I voted for the Maria FoG woman here but at work I went with everything Eternal Sunshine.
Romier S
I recently took in Maria Full of Grace thanks to my wife renting it. She was a total hottie. :tu The movie was also excellent but mainly I couldn't keep my eyes off of the lead actress.
Chris
For sure. That kid definitely should've climbed up onto the roof with her.
