Chris F
http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000760030410 /insert joke about 360 lb Xbox here Seriously, though. I was a bit taken aback. I was expecting Xbox 2, or Xbox Next, or soemthing along those lines. I wonder how the 360 comes into play here. If in fact this rumor pans out to be true. ChoiceStriker
Yeah, that is a bit odd. Can't say I like it, but I do think there's something to the idea that XBox 2 will somehow seem inferior to PlayStation 3 in the mind of the consumer. Stupid as that may be. Rob B
maybe like 360 xbox has come full circle?
dogbert
360 has to be a reference to 360 degrees, "Xbox is all around"? I doubt that'll be the name, it's kind of dumb

I don't dislike the name, it just seems like an odd choice. But I do agree that "Xbox 2" does sound "inferior" in some ways.
MrJames
I kind of liked the name Xenon better even though it was supposedly only a project code name.
Romier S
Xbox Next sounds just fine to me. 360 sounds awfully silly.
Kain rising
Ditto to those who think it sounds kind of silly.
secretvampire
I think it's because Microsoft is going to do a 360 degree turn and head off in a TOTALLY new direction with their new console!
Chris F
Xbox Next sounds just fine to me. 360 sounds awfully silly. It is rather silly. But then again, I'd buy an "Xbox Shitballs" or an "Xbox Venereal Disease" if it had Halo 3 on it.
Romier S
I think it's because Microsoft is going to do a 360 degree turn and head off in a TOTALLY new direction with their new console! Well wouldn't that be a 180 though? If they did a 360 they would be right back where they started. But then again, I'd buy an "Xbox Shitballs" or an "Xbox Venereal Disease" if it had Halo 3 on it. ewwww. :thud I do have to commend Sony on thier ridiculously simple yet effective naming scheme for thier console line. You just replace a number and you're done. It even sounds right "Playstation 3". No worries about messing with you're name recognition or anything. I personally like the name Xenon but the lack of "Xbox" would be abandoning the name recognition they have built over the years (Xenon Live anyone? ). Xbox 2 sounds like a crappy B-movie sequel. Xbox Venereal Disease is out for obvious reasons (though we know we have one buyer!). Xbox Next just seems most natural to me.
Ryan FB
Obviously it's because it will be 120 times better than the Playstation 3 and over 17 times better than the Nintendo 21!
MastaRedSnappa
I was kind of hoping they were going to just keep adding x's... Xbox 2 = Xboxx Xbox 3 = Xboxxx (guaranteed best seller ) Seriously, I tend to prefer new names over just adding a number (even if it is non-sequential like 360). I think I can get on the "Xbox Venereal Disease" bandwagon. Xbox VD is kind of catchy. I can imagine the tagline now: Xbox VD... Return of the Joystick! Ryan FB
Or how about: Xbox VD: Catch the Fever I think we're on to something here...
Romier S
You see what you started Chris? :wtf To go along with the rumored name "360" apparently there are still rumors circulating (pun intended ) that the new Xbox will be circular in design. We've already heard reports that the console will be much smaller than the current system (hell, my car is!), perhaps the 360 name would fit right with the right console design...ok, maybe not. MastaRedSnappa
The xboxvd domain is available. I wonder if I should get it now so that Bill Gates will be forced to pay me millions for it when he announces the Xbox VD...
MrJames
Don't forget that if you want to play games in hi def via component or HDMI you'll have to buy the HD Vas Deferens Pack sold separately. In terms of design I really don't have a problem with a larger console as long as it is a front loader similar to most HT components. I'll take an Xbox or PS2 (old design) over a Gamecube/Dreamcast style top loading machine any day. Much easier to fit into a component rack. Romier S
You have it all wrong Masta and James. That "VD" stands for VAN DAMME! In fact I have the opening sequence to the next Xbox available right here:
MrJames
:lmfao Yeah, that is a bit odd. Can't say I like it, but I do think there's something to the idea that XBox 2 will somehow seem inferior to PlayStation 3 in the mind of the consumer. Stupid as that may be. So what are the chances that Kutaragi pulls a Price is Right and launches the Playstation 361?
Starhawk
It is rather silly. But then again, I'd buy an "Xbox Shitballs" or an "Xbox Venereal Disease" if it had Halo 3 on it. :lmfao:lmfao I dont think 360 sounds too stupid, because I really have no better ideas to name it. I seriously doubt they call it Xbox 2.
MastaRedSnappa
For a second there, I thought that was Ryan Seacrest dancing. If that movie "Hitch" is right and women do equate dancing with how a man will be in bed, JCVD must be one lonely individual. So what are the chances that Kutaragi pulls a Price is Right and launches the Playstation 361? Wouldn't that be funny if Microsoft went with Xbox Infinity and Sony then countered with Playstation Infinity +1?
