Romier S
Not exactly a huge suprise considering Spector's and Harvey Smith's departure. Having released Deus Ex Invisible War and Thief III most recently it seems Ion Storm is now dead. It appears that 35 folks are going to be losing thier jobs. Eidos did note that it planned to increase the head count over at Crystal Dynamics so there is hope these people may be able to move right on over. You can read the full report here: Ion Storm closes it's doors Now I'm wondering if Eidos retains the rights to the Deus Ex and Thief name? I would hate to see both of those franchises fade into obscurity.
dogbert
They retain the rights to all the IP as they were the owner of the studio. It's worth noting that Eidos aren't just "increasing head count" at Crystal Dynamics, they're growing it tremendously from 2 full teams to 3. They're looking for over 100 positions I believe. That's a lot of growth.
Romier S
Yeah, the report mentions Eidos wanting to increase stuff up over 180 people!
Derrik Draven
Now I'm wondering if Eidos retains the rights to the Deus Ex and Thief name? I would hate to see both of those franchises fade into obscurity First thing I thought of when I read this news. Thief fans, (myself a BIG one), have already seen their fave franchise being in jeopardy with Looking Glass Studios shutdown. Here we go again... Maybe Thief is cursed? Cyberwoo
...and I was so looking forward to Daikatana 2. :bh :lmfao
dogbert
Maybe Thief is cursed? I think it's more likely poor management at Eidos & poor planning by Ion Storm. Interestingly, the head of Eidos North America (and the guy with final say over the closure) used to run Crystal Dynamics.
