dogbert
As it might catch fire! Microsoft have issued a statement about issues with the power cords on Xboxen all around the world that may cause them to catch fire. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4274035.stm
Angry the Clown
I just looked at the official UK Xbox page for it. You have to enter your console's serial number and manufacturing date and then I'd assume your shipping details after that. Whatever will the powercords for XBox2 do to our homes? iainl
Eeek - I better unplug my PS2 then, when I get home. That's what is using the lead right now, anyway.

JTello
I checked my Xbox today and it was manufactured in 2002. I've grown fond of my house not burning down, so I've gone ahead and placed my order.
Kain rising
Mine's a Halo Xbox, which I'd assume was manufactured in '04. Though I'll double check.
Kwijibo
Looks like I needed a cord so I signed up. Why couldn't they recognize they had a problem with their crappy Thomson drives & offer a replacement on those? At the end of the signup I noticed they said something like "In the meantime, just be sure to turn off the xbox when not in use" so I imagine it happened when left on for extended periods. Carlucci
At the end of the signup I noticed they said something like "In the meantime, just be sure to turn off the xbox when not in use" so I imagine it happened when left on for extended periods. Which reminds me: In the setting section of the xbox, you can set the auto-shut off, which is supposed to shut it off automatically after 2 hours of non-use. But I have never gotten it to work. Does "non-use" mean without a disk in the drive?' Carlos.

Jeff W
Ordered one as well, the Halo edition box didn't need one but my older box did, thanks for the heads up. :tu
ChoiceStriker
Microsoft has said it will replace more than 14 million power cables for its Xbox consoles due to safety concerns. Wow, I didn't realize they'd even sold that many systems. That's impressive.
PlayerLuv
Well this seals the deal about returning my "spare" xbox (Dec 2000) and getting a new one. My hompson drive on the spare is very picky with games. The trade in credit at EB is still pretty good (99 bucks). Perhaps if the xbox was more modular based there would be a DVD drive fix as well. GrumpyElf
Thought about having my Xbox "accidently" light up the house... hell, I could get Bill to buy me a nice new mansion, err, home

My hompson drive on the spare is very picky with games. The trade in credit at EB is still pretty good (99 bucks). This sounds like a great idea for your situation. If you have another Xnox you might as well get what you can for the spare one while it still has that value. Especailly considering the Xbox 2 is coming out this year, if you can live with one, go for it.

Kwijibo
I will give props to MS for how they handled this. Even though I heard about the recall here I did get an email saying I had a xbox with defective cord. (I guess I registered my xbox, but don't remember doing it. lol) I even got an email today saying my new cord has shipped. Now if they would just send me a replacement DVD drive....... *holds breath.:thud
Jon W H
Wow' date=' I didn't realize they'd even sold that many systems. That's impressive. [/size'] Yep. NPD sales numbers account for only about 60% of actual numbers, I've been told.
JoeyN
Just got home. Two packages from microsoft as i ordered one for my xbox and one for my brothers. One has a regular replacement power cord in a envelope. The other one is a small box which has another protection cable but its different. It has a big box on the end and has a test plug which you can test if the line is good. Whats the difference? capt
