JoeyN
***do not post links to torrents or where to get them in this thread** Silicon.com has a intresting article about Bit Torrent and other means to download TV show episodes. The main reason for many of these things is shows airing in UK and Canada 4 or 5 months before here in the US. However it goes the other way as well on a few shows The top 10 pirated TV shows worldwide are: 1. 24 2. Stargate Atlantis 3. The Simpsons 4. Enterprise 5. Stargate SG-1 6. The O.C. 7. Smallville 8. Desperate Housewives 9. Battlestar Galactica 10. Lost

iainl
Yes, it's apparently all us Brits' fault - we rule the world when it comes to downloading shows.
Covak
The main reason for many of these things is shows airing in UK and Canada 4 or 5 months before here in the US. It's just the UK, not Canada (we get pretty much the same TV the US does).
Tom
It's just the UK, not Canada (we get pretty much the same TV the US does). Except my precious The Shield.
iainl
it is The UK which leads the way, accounting for around one fifth of global television piracy, ahead of Australia in second and the USA in third. See, I told you it's all my fault. Well, Smallville and Desperate Housewives are, anyway. I've still not finished my Season 1 DVD set of 24. JoeyN
Actually yes it includes the UK and Canada . Battlestar of course was on Skyone first. .Stargate Atlantis S1's second half aired on Skyone months before it did here in the US. Stargate Sg-1 second half of season 8 Aired in Canada months before the US. Tru Calling S2's 6 episodes have started airing in New Zealand and there is no clue when its going to be aired here in US. Which is the reason both Stargates are on that list capt
dogbert
Those are by far & away the exceptions to the rule though! [added] From the very article you linked, Joey: And it is The UK which leads the way, accounting for around one fifth of global television piracy, ahead of Australia in second and the USA in third. Carlucci
I wanted to stop using my Xbox as my primary DVD player, so I recently bought a Philips DVD player with built in DivX support, for $50 at BestBuy. This is great for watching downloaded torrent files. It works with Xvid too! You can fit 10 or more 1-hour episodes one DVD, without the need to convert them first. It has some slight issues with jitters while panning, but not obtrusive. there seems to be a firmware mod to help with this on the previous model, so I'm hoping for an update for this model soon. Philips DVP3040. Only drawback is no optical audio out, but I'm not noticing any difference when using the coax. Carlos.
ChrisBardon
I'm actually surprised at some of the stuff on that list-I'd have thought that something like the Sopranos would have been on there. Then again, any tracking that's being done can only be a rough estimate of the overall download activity. Hopefully things like this will inspire more reasonable on-demand services, as opposed to some of the current 1.99 per episode scams etc out there now. I know that here, the CBC has a bunch of stuff set up for free on-demand viewing, and I've read a bit about what the BBC is doing, and it sounds even more extensive (your TV tax at work ). The Daisy
I have the previous version of that DVD player the DVP642 and that one also did DivX and XviD files. They're great little players for the $49.99 price point. Glen

ChrisBardon
Look at the date, it's an old list, Chris. Ah, that would make sense then. Hadn't noticed the Feb 2005 date on there.
Lutter
If the list were updated... I'm sure the new series of Doctor Who would be on there. I know LOTS of people that download that one (the US is literally an entire season behind).

I figured something wonky was happening.
