ChoiceStriker
For the second time in three years, both at my workplace. The parking at my job is ridiculous - in a bad part of town, and literally a quarter of a mile from my building. There's never anybody patrolling the area, and I don't have any choice but to park there. My employer refuses to pay for off-site parking, even though they reimburse their New York office employees for commuting expenses. I will be raising hell about this shortly. Anyway, they smashed out my passenger side window this time and stole my stereo and a copy of Burnout 3 I had in the trunk (which I'm kicking myself for not taking inside now - I just got it in the mail TODAY). Now I'm in that crappy position of not knowing whether to have insurance take care of the expenses, and risk having my rates go up. Meh. Sorry for the rant... just had to bitch about it to someone. Kain rising
Dude, that sucks. I too have to park a long way away (anywhere from a quarter to over half a mile) from the building I work in and the lots aren't exactly in the best parts of the town. Fortunately my car's never been broken into, but several of my co-workers' cars have. Crappy situation all around. :bh
ChoiceStriker
Ah, you just gotta love those insurance companies. I'm boned on the game, because it falls under the $250 deductible of my renter's insurance (personal property inside the car). Pardon my language, but WHAT THE FUCK DO I PAY YOU FOR!?!?! Insurance is the world's biggest racket.
reeldeal
Ah' date=' you just gotta love those insurance companies. I'm boned on the game, because it falls under the $250 deductible of my renter's insurance (personal property inside the car). Pardon my language, but WHAT THE FUCK DO I PAY YOU FOR!?!?! Insurance is the world's biggest racket. amen. happened to me, with my car parked in my own driveway twice in a one year period. I do not live in a bad part of town at all, just unheard of that it happens not just once...but twice! it's so frustrating because the jack-asses that broke into your car will get maybe a couple hundred bucks at most. Which isn't even as much as it costs to replace your broken window. some people are just asses, and the fact your employer won't take care of you must just have you infuriated. I feel for you man. I feel for you.
Romier S
Insurance is the world's biggest racket. I agree with Chris Rock's assessment of insurance: "We pay insurance companies money in case shit happens. Now if shit don't happen, shouldn't we get that money back?" Cyberwoo
Ugh dont get me started on insurance. Sorry to hear about your car. I went through a similar situation a few years back. Vehicle got broken into and they took over $1000 worth of audio cd's and a nice cd player. I've since learned to park more smartly (obviously in your case you didnt have much of a choice) and not to leave any valuables in my car whatsoever. I also have an alarm now. Ya I know they dont prevent theft but its a deterant and if having an alarm keeps just 1 person from breaking into my truck it has done its job. heavy liquid
That sucks, Eric. I've only had my car broken into once, thankfully. Smashed out the rear driver's side window, and took a bunch of CDs and the CD player. Happened in the underground parking structure of my apartment at the time! And I don't want to get started on insurance, either...
ChoiceStriker
Thanks for the words of support, guys.
kelley
I've had my car broken into four times in my life. It sucks ass, and always makes you feel violated. My best friend got his car broken into last month and just decided not to even mess with replacing his stuff as he lives in a bad part of town. Now he just leaves his car unlocked all the time he says it's very liberating.
Kain rising
If only we could have cars like these... Flame On!
General Zot
Haha, of course considering how often I turn on the wipers when I want the lights between our two cars now, flamethrowers could be a little dangerous. Bet that mannequin learned not to break into any more cars though If only we could have cars like these... Flame On!
ChoiceStriker
If only we could have cars like these... Flame On! Yes! That's what I need! I also have an alarm now. Ya I know they dont prevent theft but its a deterant and if having an alarm keeps just 1 person from breaking into my truck it has done its job. I agree with you - that's the same reason I keep a Club on my car. I know they could cut through it, but I do believe it gives thieves reason to consider something easier. My car itself isn't valuable (1993 Geo Prizm LSI, 165,000 miles), but it's valuable to me. Kansas City is not somewhere you can easily do without a car, and I don't want to make it any easier for anybody to make my life a huge headache. I was actually thinking about getting an alarm system as a deterrent, but if I trade the car in the near future I don't want to spend a lot of money on it. Does anybody know where I can get one of those fake security LEDs and maybe a decal ("Protected by VIPER," etc.)?
MrJames
Sorry to hear about your car. I've become much more conscious of everything around me since I just bought mine. I'm considering getting the Trunk Monkey.
Robot Monkey
I know Trunk Monkey and he's a good guy. Very down to earth and has some great Hollywood stories since doing that commerical.
Jon W H
ChoiceStriker, I think you might be able to get them at Best Buy (it's been a while since I last looked for fake alarm LEDs.) I have a factory built-in car alarm, but I also use the Club. I figure a thief will be aware that a '96 Jeep GC has a car alarm already and figure it might be more trouble than it's worth considering other cars in the lot. And yes, insurance is a scam.
