FLYING SE7EN
Rockstar Games has today announced that it will release a pack containing both Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for PlayStation 2 and Xbox later this year. It's not yet clear whether the games will in any way improve upon the PS2 originals, but today's announcement is sure to please Xbox owners who, until now, have been without a GTA game of any description. The PlayStation 2 pack is currently scheduled for release in North America on October 22, with the Xbox version following on November 4. Click here for the full story Cheers. J.
EnemaEms
Finally, we can put an end to one rumor that has been going around for over a year. -Dean-
EnemaEms
Oh, I hope the X-box version will have custom soundtracks. If it does, I will rebuy it just for GTA 3. -Dean-
heavy liquid
Wow, both games in a two pack! I wonder how they got around to releasing them before 2004, though? It's strange that there's no mention of this in the article.
dogbert
Wow, both games in a two pack! I wonder how they got around to releasing them before 2004, though? It's strange that there's no mention of this in the article. They re-negotiated the contract with Sony, and the terms of that new contract are not public. I'm curious what price this bundle will be on the PS2 seeing as both games are fairly cheap to buy right now, or will they find a way to "add value" to get it re-bought? PoisonJam
This is from the same article (maybe it was amended with pricing info): The PlayStation 2 pack priced at $39.99 is currently scheduled for release in North America on October 22, with the Xbox version priced at $49.99 following on November 4. fishepa
I might actually try to get into this game again, I hope the graphics are improved over the PS2 version.
kelley
Wouldn't it be sweet to get some 16x9 1080i or 720p on this! I'll be picking the set up.
paul h
hmmmm, a renegotiated contract.. considering Sony are no fools i would think these games will be straight ports and not considerably different from the PS2 versions. Hope im wrong as i love the PC version!!!
Beer Monkey
Maybe this was in exchange for GTA4 going PS2 exclusive. Or something. Who knows.
Sam P
Hmm. I've played Vice City for PS2 to death but I didn't spend much time with the original. If they let me buy GTA3 independently of Vice I will definitely pick it up for the 'Box.

This is an all one package deal.
Calvin
Hmm. Maybe I'll hold off on playing Vice City now & get this pack for the big ole' box.
foogledricks
I have NEVER PLAYED a GTA game. So this is my opportunity, and what a deal to get these incredible games for just $25 each, brand new with improved graphics and sound over the PS2 version (It makes sense that they'll be porting the PC versions). dogbert
How's a port of a two year old game (when it's released for the XBox) "brand new"?
Solitice
This just out on it: There will be several enhacements for the Xbox version of GTA Double Pack. The game will feature higher polygon models, enhaced audio, specular lighting and reflection mapping. "The game will look better on the Xbox with its enhacements. It's not just a straight port." said Lapin. There is another shot at team xbox. Actually, Multiplayer via Live would have been a good way to justify charging a full price for the game eh? General Zot
With a couple of nice loss leaders getting the Xbox version to $39.99, I'd pick it no problem. 5.1 sound, 16x9 480p video, and maybe custom soundtracks = fuggidaboutitt! JFo
As one who has yet to play either game, count me in with the happy and excited crowd. I only hope Rockstar does a good job porting it over like they are promising and don't just do a rush job to get it out the door and into people's Xboxes by Christmastime
Andy Sheets
As one who has yet to play either game, count me in with the happy and excited crowd. I only hope Rockstar does a good job porting it over like they are promising and don't just do a rush job to get it out the door and into people's Xboxes by Christmastime I imagine that they would be able to adapt the PC ports over to the Xbox with relatively little problem compared to the PS2 versions. The PC version even has a form of custom soundtrack support and Vice City in particular looks and plays very smooth compared to the PS2 version. It would be even nicer if they could adapt the PC control scheme to the Xbox version Whatever they do, my roommate will be very excited by this. Ever since he got his own Xbox, he's been whining about GTA3 being the one game he'd love to have from the PS2
MrJames
Add me to the list of those who never played either game. I planned on picking them up now that prices have come down. With this announcement though I'll be waiting for the Xbox versions. There are plenty of other games keeping me busy at the moment.
NickC
Two more reasons to get an XBOX and get rid of my PS2. Of course there are still a thousand to keep it
merlot
Looking forward to this. I don't own a PS2, and never bought the PC versions.
foogledricks
Two more reasons to get an XBOX and get rid of my PS2. You'd be fried for making this comment on HTF. Thankfully you are here. But if you ever #$%#$%&$%^*
dogbert
Of course, Keith, you didn't fully quote him there, did ya? "Still a thousand to keep it"
Angry the Clown
Pending how jigged up the X-Box incarnations ultimately turn out to be, I may be mad enough to re-purchase the games. It's nice news for X-box owners regardless however, and certainly titles for Box owners to really consider owning if they've never played any of the GTA titles before.
