Starhawk
Ed Bradley is going to cover a story tonight on the effects of Grand Theft Auto and if it influenced a teenager to kill. GRAND THEFT AUTO - Can a violent videogame called Grand Theft Auto be responsible for an 18-year-old murdering three people? That's what the families of the victims are saying in a lawsuit and to Ed Bradley. 7p Eastern Standard after Duke v. Carolina.
JFo
Thanks for the heads up on this, Cam. I'll definitely make the effort to watch this, though I suspect that the entire report will do everything in its power to lead people to believe that video games like GTA do lead people to violent behavior. Cyberwoo
Thanks for the heads up. Even though I'm pissed at the notion that someone is blaming a video game for a violent crime I'll be watching this out of curiousity hoping they give some detailed background on the killer. I'm betting the killer didn't have an "ideal" upbringing.
secretvampire
though I suspect that the entire report will do everything in its power to lead people to believe that video games like GTA do lead people to violent behavior It's pretty amazing that people try such a weak and obviously flawed arguement, isn't it? I mean, one person out of the MILLIONS that have bought the Grand Theft Auto was affected. From a statistical standpoint, it is absolutely ridiculous to suggest any kind of a cause-and-effect relationship here. I like racing games. If tomorrow I get a speeding ticket, can I go to court and claim that playing racing games has somehow brainwashed me into driving too fast in real life? JoeyN
The thing about these stories on these news programs is they always do 97% of the show on one side of the story (usually the 1 person who was already a bad apple), and towards the end throws in a quick clip of someone on the other side. capt
Whooter
If tomorrow I get a speeding ticket, can I go to court and claim that playing racing games has somehow brainwashed me into driving too fast in real life? You can, but if you do, you deserve to be shotgunned to death and left in the street for dogs to eat. Now...off to play some more GTA... Starhawk
LOL, Cyberwoo nailed it! I thought Bradley did a good job of getting "our" side across, and I laughed at the idiots who, just like we all said here, put the blame on the videogame for one person's actions. I think it was clear that the guy had bad upbringing which got him into the situation much more than a videogame did.
JFo
Damn it! I totally forgot about this. Luckily, by the time I turned on the TV and flipped over to CBS, the report was just about over. Oh well...
Kain rising
I like racing games. If tomorrow I get a speeding ticket, can I go to court and claim that playing racing games has somehow brainwashed me into driving too fast in real life? I believe that Project Gotham Racing 2 was banned (or an attempt was made to ban it) in Australia for pretty much this exact reason.
JoeyN
I turned the show on exactly when the GTA segment started. I thought they did a really good job with both sides, and was actually surprised capt
Cyberwoo
Bleh I missed it (was playing BIA and Halo2). Oh well. So how was it? Any details about the killer?

ChoiceStriker
Thanks for the link! I'm going to watch now. Edit: Meh... I could only watch the first three minutes, but I did read the transcript. Interesting, but not really anything I haven't heard before.
