fishepa
I plan on picking this up on my lunch break, and I expect everyone else who's in the league to picking this up ASAP as well . I'll post some quick impressions when I get back. EDIT: I'm up for an online game tonight as well.
The Daisy
I'll let you know when I get my copy WarEagle. I might be up for an online game as well. I need a new headset though. ugh. Glen
fishepa
Glen, I bought the Madcatz version a few weeks ago at Best Buy for $4.99. I haven't tried it yet, just FYI.
merlot
On my lunch break now and just got back from EB, ESPN Football sits in the car I'll be up for some online action as well...

fishepa
Impressions: I only played for about 45 on my lunch break against one of my co-workers, but man, this game is unbelievable! The ESPN presentation is amazing, just like watching a Sunday night NFL game. From the menu overlays to the ingame stats that are shown, it looks great! From the passes I've attempted, the dropsies are gone, the receivers actually hang on to the ball, but not if they are REALLY hit hard. I have never seen such great animations in a football game before. The running game seems pretty solid so far, using the moves works flawlessly. I wish I could give you all more info, but alas I'm at work again. Pick this game up now so we can get some online games going! :green:
merlot
Will do... I'll also be playing some friends online that are picking up the game.
Carlucci
Just got back with my copy. I'll give it a try this afternoon, but probably won't have time for any online play tonight. I'm having a look at the manual, and it says there will be an IN-GAME manual, with "even more in-depth gameplay and menu information". That will save me from having to print out last year's manual 2.0, which was about 25 pages.
Robot Monkey
There's also another manual/guide under the Practice menu. -j
kelley
just got done playing some 2k4 online and man what a change! As was previously said the ESPN presentation is AWESOME! Visual Concepts really went all out on the presentation this year. Not really sure I like the new play calling menus. Guess I'll get used to them eventually but right now I really want my old system back . So far this game gets a must buy from me.
Robot Monkey
Sorry about missing the play-date, Kelley -- finishing that game took a little longer than 10 minutes (but it looks like you hooked up with another lcvg'er, so I'm not all choked up over it ). It's a shame that it appears to be box to box, though. Wouldn't it be nice to see some friends in a game and join them? -j
Gary P
Anyone heard word about what happened to 720p mode? It says it's included on the package, but it is most definitely not engaging at any time, nor could I find any option that would enable it. It's not a completely big deal, but I was kinda looking forward to seeing it in action. EDIT: Woops, wrong thread. J ay, feel free to cane me and move this to the proper area. The Daisy
Gotta tell you. I'm thinking about not picking up the game now that I know it's not able to run in 720P mode. Sega is really burning some bridges with me on this issue. Glen

Graeme
Some people are claiming that 720p is working for them, so I dunno what to believe. My TV doesn't support it anyway, so I'm not that concerned.
Gary P
I haven't talked to Dean this evening, but I can confirm that his version was not running in 720p either earlier this afternoon. We have the same TV and it locks the picture mode when being fed a 720p signal (which engages fine in NBA2K3) I thought I'd try turning off 480p and 1080i in the dashboard to see if maybe that would trigger something, which it did not, it just ran in 480i. Like I said, this is a minor issue in my book, just trying to figure out what happened. Also, is this something that could be addressed via a downloadable patch? Thanks, Gary
Graeme
I thought there was a few guys saying 720p was working for them, but it seems it was the same guy just repeating a bunch of times... the majority of people report that it is not 720p so he might be just sniffing too much glue. I played 8 or 9 games on the demo tonight (3 minutes just isn't enough) and was really digging the running game and the animations in ESPN. After having played Fever for a few games, I could tell this one is much more fun to play.
EnemaEms
Gary, I never did get it to run in 720p. I also have another problem and I know that Mr.Brett is having it as well. Every time we exit a game online, X-box freezes on the exit dialog. We have to reboot the X-box after every online game. Now I would think that this should of been an issue that would have really been noticed in testing. So I am wondering if there is a batch of defective games that got out. Is anyone else having this issue? -Dean-
fishepa
We need a definitive answer from Sega on this one.

Glen But its not like the loosing 720p hurts the gameplay any, which is why anyone should buy a game.
merlot
Well I put some time into this last night, both offline and on. I'm completely and thoroughly impressed with the improvements in the graphics, presentation, and most importantly, the gameplay. Anyone that says it's just a rehash of last years game has absolutely no idea what they are talking about. The 1st person mode was actually pretty fun, and I will make use of it more. It was really cool walking up to the line, looking around at the defense and recievers. Or playing as the RB, and carrying the ball through the middle. Online play was solid, expect both my friend and I had a problem with the game freezing as we tried to exit our game. My disc was not secured in the case when I opened it, and had some scuff marks and scratches on it, maybe that was the cause? I'm exchanging it today. The crib is pretty damn sweet I have to admit. Sounded like a gimic, but I'll be damned if I don't want to unlock the mini games and fill my trophy shelves :green: A must buy for any football fan! fighting fish
Great game. Too bad I was only able to play 1 Quarter last night before my wife was like, "hey, that looks sweet, let me try." She finished my game (scoring 10 points). HUGE improvement over last year, which was already a great game!
Graeme
I was in a football mode yesterday with all the posts on various boards and reviews for this game, so after playing the demo a bunch of times I hooked up the old DC and played some NFL2K (yes, the first one). The game played well.... but I was stunned at how far the graphics had come since then. I really wasn't expecting it to be quite so dramatic. The presentation keeps surprising me after two days. Love Berman's nicknames. Now, what's all this talk about continuing divergence errors? Anyone run into them? -j
