Romier S
Ran across this, the first image I've seen from the new Doom movie starring the Rock and Karl Urban. Take a look: Keep in the mind that the film makes some fairly major changes to the Doom storyline. The movie is not set on Mars and creatures in the film are created due to a viral infection. Hell has nothing to do with thier existence.
EnemaEms
Sounds like this should not be called DOOM. -Dean-

exile
With Rock onboard I predict a box office failure. They need to quit while they are ahead.
Romier S
With Rock onboard I predict a box office failure. As of right now, he is the only thing the movie has going for it.

Andy Sheets
As of right now, he is the only thing the movie has going for it. Damn straight. What Rocky really needs is to find his own equivalent to James Cameron, a good director who genuinely likes making really loud action movies. If he can do that, he'll be HUGE. He was the best thing about Be Cool, and that's saying something considering how much talent was in that cast.
Jordan_E
I read that The Rock was bragging about the movie being a hard R and that he had a blast making it...BUT, no Mars? No Hell? No demons? WTF?! :bh
Camp
Hollywood sucks. What's next? Will the Halo movie be a musical?
Angry the Clown
Well admit it, it's hardly as if even if they?d stuck to the game's silly premise it would be any good anyway, but what baffles me most of all is actually that British actress Rosamund Pike is in it, who despite a god awful Bond film to her name has gone on to establish a solid stage reputation and growing serious screen one to, only to be marred with this on her CV. The mind boggles. The sad truth is this will probably do a damn sight better than it deserves to, especially once it hits DVD. Audiences will put up with anything these days. Josh
Saw The Rock on Jon Stewart last week talking about this. Not only is the movie NOT on Mars and NOT based on Hell lore, "BFG" is called something like Battle Fluorescent Gun or something lame like that. If it's really "Hard R," just call the BFG what it should be called.
Andy Sheets
It really does make you want to grab the producers by the shoulders and shake them silly for being so fucking stupid that they would pay money for the Doom name and then jettison 99% of the admittedly thin premise. Get rid of Mars and Hell, and you're basically left with soldiers shooting bad guys, which could be any action movie and you wouldn't have had to pay any cash to Id. Derrik Draven
I'm going to have to lean on the side of the fence that says the original Doom storyline IS the way to go. Hell, (pun intended), let me direct the movie. I can do eeeeet!!!! I see no problems in making a movie based around secret, government backed, corporate financed, experiments dealing with space/time/teleportation. We break into the other dimension and, it's a dimension of pain/chaos/death. Sounds like Event Horizon. Cameron would be a great fit as long as he can make it feel different enough from Aliens. I have to agree with Romier. The Rock is the only thing this film has going for it, at this point. Deviating so much from the beloved pc games story, already alienates your 1 built-in fanbase. Without that, you're going to have to pull in Joe Public. That will require a celebrity name. As long as W.S. Anderson isn't tied to this film, it might have a chance. Jeff W
As long as I don't see the words "Uwe Boll" I'll give it a whirl

This isn't Doom. Hell, I don't even like Doom that much, nor do I like mindless action movies, but I will go see the occasional one, or at least rent it. But this sounds like one of those true stinkers, like "Alone in the Dark".
Romier S
Well admit it, it's hardly as if even if they?d stuck to the game's silly premise it would be any good anyway Well, it doesn't need to be really. It simply needs to be an extremely loud and entertaing action fest where one crazy guy fights the legions of hell. When you remove the very core of what makes the entire premise Doom, it makes me less inclined to shut off my brain for a little shameless, plotless action. Shit, all I need is the Rock holding a the BFG about ready to shoot the crap out of a Hellknight and about 20 Imps in the middle of a lava dripping hell setting and I'd be pleased. Angry the Clown
It simply needs to be an extremely loud and entertaing action fest where one crazy guy fights the legions of hell. Indeed, Romier. Does that not prove my point? Daniel
Romier S
Indeed, Romier. Does that not prove my point? Well, to an extent of course but that doesn't necessarily mean that I dislike loud and brainless action flicks. If the action is well done and the movie keeps me entertained throughout, than I have no problems with it personally. It's insultingly bad films like XxX or Fast and the Furious that sour me to such experiences but I can't judge all films by such examples. There are films like Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead remake that cover very little in terms of plot but make for some seriously entertaining cinema due to it's very exciting action set pieces. They end up being great movies in my mind.
Angry the Clown
Yes but to reiterate my argument of a potential Halo movie from not long ago, if that's all a potential film delivers, why bother? You can have an extremely loud and entertaining action fest with the games, and you can take part in those! Daniel
Romier S
Yes but to reiterate my argument of a potential Halo movie from not long ago, if that's all a potential film delivers, why bother? Well, Halo and Doom are two very different game properties. If indeed Halo was released as little more than a mindless action movie with very little of the games plot interjected than I would totally agree with your assessment. Why bother? When it comes to Doom though, you said it yourself, the premise is already silly and about as simple as you can get. Why fuss with simplicity is my point. You start the movie on Mars, Rocky arrives and is debriefed. Hell breaks loose. Proceed with an hour or so of dead marines, slaughter and mayhem with the denizens of hell. End the film with Rocky going into hell and fighting the Cyber Demon to seal the gate. Shit, you got my money. :tu
