Cyberwoo
http://www.10tacle.com/gtr-game/ The game is called GTR. It is apparently being developed in the UK. Anyway this game came out of nowhere for me. I just played the demo and was absolutely blown away at the level of realism the game has. You drive a Ferrari 360 in the demo and it sounds and handles just like it should. You feel (and see) ever bump. One bad gear shift and you are f'd my friend. This is no arcade racer. I've been craving a good racing simulator and this just filled my craving and then some. I cannot wait for the full game. I urge anyone interested in racing games to check out the demo. Be warned that you should be using a good wheel or at the very least a controller with analog steering and acceleration. Anyway I'm off to see if I can put together a clean lap. I was all over the place at first.
iainl
The full game just came out here (or does next week, I forget which, and I've just bought GT4 so it'll have to wait a while). It's absolutely marvellous judging from the older demo I tried a few months back, and seriously, seriously hardcore while being more approachable than Live For Speed. Cyberwoo
Try the newer demo iainl if you haven't already. Came out Feb 11 2005. I just tweaked the Ferrari settings a bit and am currently ripping around the track somewhat comfortably now and drifting through corners at times. Good stuff. I tried the Saleen car but couldn't see over the dash very well. You sit really low in that car. I need to figure out how to adjust the seat.... Buck
I need to figure out how to adjust the seat.... You used the mouse in the older demo to adjust the seat, so I assume it still works in the newer demo
Cyberwoo
Hah never thought of that. Thanks Buck I'll give it a shot. I'm still having a blast with the demo. I even tried the "arcade" mode and really enjoyed it as well. Helps to learn the braking points of the track before you jump into the full on simulation mode. I found a couple places online to order the full version of the game. Can't wait. Anyone else plan on getting this game? I'm itching to try the multiplayer. iainl
Ah, thought so - this was released in the UK last week, so anyone desperate enough to put up with the exchange rate can order one from Amazon UK.
Cyberwoo
There are a couple reviews out already in the UK that are pretty entertaining to read. Basically the reviewers sound like they can't drive for shit and need to stick to games like Burnout. They admit that the game is just too simmy for them and that is music to my ears. The reviews kind of remind me when reviewers complained that Grand Prix Legends was too hard. I've considered GPL to be the grand daddy of all racing sims for years now but that could change soon. GTR is the kind of game I've been waiting for for a long time. I'm glad there are still people out there passionate enough about racing to create these type of simulations. Cyberwoo
My retail copy of GTR arrived today. I'll be picking up a MOMO force racing wheel this weekend and then be racing by Sunday. W00t! If anyone else winds up getting this game let me know and we can hook up for some races.
Romier S
Gamespot actually has a review for GTR up. They gave it an 8.8 and praise its realism, physics, and looks. Anyone further interested in the game can read the full review here: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/driving/gtr/review.html
Cyberwoo
About time they got this game into US retail stores. Been enjoying the hell out of the UK version for 3 months now. Can't give it enough praise. I just wish everyone had the opportunity to play it on a good gaming PC with a GOOD force feedback wheel (ie: MOMO Racing force). The sensation of driving a true to life race car just cannot be touched by any other game.
iainl
And just in time for Simbin's follow-up to get previewed in Edge this month. GT Legends appears to be them doing the same kind of rigorous treatment to the 1960s and 70s. They're trying to ease us wusses in a bit this time, however, with a Toca-style career mode that sees you getting the hang of old-fashioned Mini Coopers with their forgiving nature before you get near the 911s. Oh dear God. 90+ cars. Each with proper engine noises and dashboards. Ford GT40. De Tomaso Pantera. Merc 300 SL. Why did I waste money on Gran Turismo 4 again? Cyberwoo
Ya I'm all over GT Legends. Older cars are much more fun to drive than newer cars (for the most part). Newer cars pretty much drive themselves these days.
