Dan B.
Wow, they're really cranking out the sequels these days, aren't they? POP, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, Brothers In Arms, etc. I sincerely hope they plan some extra time for bug testing in their upcoming games, as some of their recent games, most notably POP:WW...but others like Brothers in Arms etc., have been packed with game-ruining bugs. Tranquility
Don't care about much except for PoP3 and the Far Cry expansion. I hope Crytek is the developer working on that, regardless of their EA deal.
Tranquility
as some of their recent games, most notably POP:WW...but others like Brothers in Arms etc., have been packed with game-ruining bugs. Really? FWIW I didn't encounter any bugs with PoP:WW except once when I was fighting a golem, he threw me out of a room and when I came back I could only see his shadow. Restarting from the savepoint fixed it (PC version). I heard there were some audio glitches in the Xbox version but nothing I heard of that is game-ruining. What bugs did you come across? What bugs did you come across? For me personally, I accidentally pulled a switch a second time, which stopped me from being able to progress in the game. I was able to load an earlier save, but it took me a long time to figure out what the hell I was doing wrong. I found out by looking at a list of bugs at the Ubi message boards: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=400102&f=1121003742&m=5311089252 I've also had the game freeze up on me repeatedly. foogledricks
Let me sneak in the following question. For someone who has never played a POP game before, which version should I get. POP 1 or 2? Please consider that people usually have a bias that the first is the best... because it felt fresh. For example, I love the original Die Hard. My friend saw Die Hard 2 before he saw Die Hard 1, and he says he likes Die Hard 2 better.
Romier S
Not a matter of feeling "fresh" for me Keith. The first Prince of Persia is a better game in many ways. The story is more interesting and has a great sense of mystery and magic about it. The setting is more dreamlike and fantastical to me than the sequel which is very dark and gritty. The save and continue system acts as though the Prince is narrarating the tale to you which gives it a unique flavor over the second game (for instance when you die the screen will fade and you will hear the Prince say "No, no that's not how it happened."). The music in the first game is also astronomically better than the hard rock nonsense that appears throughout allot of PoP 2. The first game is also much more heavily veered toward platforming and puzzle solving. The second game strives to strike a balance between the two and does in fact feature a far more fleshed out and more enjoyable combat engine. However, I personally feel it veers a bit too much into the combat arena and the balance it strives for is never achieved. Either game will give you a great adventure experience to be honest. I've grown to appreciate Prince of Persia 2 quite a bit more then when I first sat down with it. However, it still pales in comparison to the superior first game's atmosphere, characters and platforming puzzles. Even if you do decide to pick up the original Prince of Persia Keith, definitely give the sequel a look eventually.
Mark E
And yet, for all those sequels, no follow-up to BG&E. Sigh. Interesting to see Might & Magic making a comeback though.
JFo
Come on, Romier. Just tell Keith what he really wants to hear. That is Warrior Within supports a 16:9 mode on the Xbox and The Sands of Time does not. Anyway, I agree that there's a lot of sequels and licensed gamesin that bunch with very few original properties. I do wish Ubisoft would branch out a little more and put out some new content and not just become a company known for little else than Tom Clancy games and some movie licences. And yet, for all those sequels, no follow-up to BG&E. Sigh Double sigh for me. There's no new Rayman game listed anywhere in that list. I was hoping GR3 would be out for the Xbox next launch window:tu I also wish a sequal to BG&E would be made, however look at the business side of things. All the Tom Clancy games are huge sellers which make a lot of money. Why risk money and resources making a squal to a game that didnt do well in the market place capt
ChoiceStriker
Re: Sands of Time vs. Warrior Within Penny Arcade had a very funny comic and accompanying news post about the differences between the two games. I recommend checking it out here. Be sure to read both Tycho and Gabe's posts. And for anyone who's never visited PA (although in this crowd I wouldn't imagine that's very many of us), click on "whores" to read the comic. iainl
It really is a depressing-as-hell list. Grand total of 2 (TWO) "original" titles on the list; 187: Ride Or Die (yes, it's another "street" racing game) and generic sounding FPS that doesn't even have a proper title yet. Romier S
Lumines is an original title I know Ubisoft didn't develop but I'm eternally grateful for them publishing it in the US.
