Romier S
Source: http://www.gamers.com/news/1351454 Gamers.com: News: Konami Confirms New Castlevania, TMNT Dates By: D. F. Smith April 11, 2003 1:29 PM PDT Konami USA today confirmed new release dates for its upcoming Castlevania and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games, in the process of announcing part of its E3 lineup. Castlevania will arrive on PlayStation 2 this November, while the new "3D Fighting Action" TMNT game is due for release in October. Currently-announced platforms for the latter are PlayStation 2, Gamecube, Game Boy Advance, and PC. Konami will also display Boktai, Hideo Kojima's sun-sensitive GBA action-RPG (due in September), and the PS2 horror adventure Silent Hill 3 (still coming in the summer) at the show. Look forward to learning more about Konami's lineup, including as-yet-unannounced games, as E3 draws nearer.

Andre F
Any more details on this new Castlevania? 3-D or 2-D? Sounds very interesting...
Hank Scorpio
I sure hope the Castlevania game is 2-D. And if the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game is anything like the old arcade games that would be great news.
kelley
The new Turltles games should be like The Two Towers.
Romier S
New details on the Castlevania game: First off, this new Castlevania isn't a side-scrolling hybrid like Konami's recent Contra: Shattered Soldier, as many gamers expected it to be. "When you try to simply deliver the 2D experience in 3D, it doesn't translate well," Igarashi says, "so the challenge for us is to make Castlevania fun as a true 3D game." Expect a completely reimagined, combo-laden combat system; the return of classic subweapons like holy water, crosses, daggers; and an even stronger emphasis on exploration--just don't expect survival horror. "In horror games, it's not fun to fight enemies," Igarashi explains. "In action games, you're a true hero. A Belmont doesn't run from zombies--he fights them." This new chapter turns back the clock to the 11th century, making this chronologically the first battle between the Belmonts and Drac. Your (overly?) stylish hero sports both a whip and a sword, not unlike the vampire hunter in Konami's clumsy Nintendo 64 Castlevanias. But Igarashi makes it clear that the similarities will end there. "Please forget about those games!" hes says, adding that he had nothing to do with those disappointments. "I know that I have lots of Castlevania fans out there, so each and every game I make must be the best one yet. Don't worry--I will deliver something that will make fans happy." Mark E
When you try to simply deliver the 2D experience in 3D, it doesn't translate well That's why they should keep it 2D dammit! I will keep an open mind, since Nintendo brought its franchises to 3D well, but I have to admit that I'm kinda disappointed the PS2 won't have its own Symphony of the Night equivalent. Romier S
Igarashi is no fool and I believe he knows what us Drac freaks want. I trust him to create one hell of a Castlevania game. The fact that he acknowledges the N64 games as being the disappointments they were is enough to ease my soul:)

potempkin
Here are a couple shots from the new EGM. I blurred out the content on the larger shot for copyright reasons.
Hank Scorpio
That's why they should keep it 2D dammit! I will keep an open mind, since Nintendo brought its franchises to 3D well, but I have to admit that I'm kinda disappointed the PS2 won't have its own Symphony of the Night equivalent. Well said and I couldn't agree more. I was really hoping that it would be a similar style to the latest Contra game, but the press release makes it known that it won't be. It won't take much to be better than the N64 games, but here's to hoping that Konami can surpise us and deliver a game that feels like Castlevania. Graeme
Just a heads up for Castlevania fans, this month's Issue of Play has a good preview of Lament, and interview with Ayami Kojima, and a retrospective on all the past Castlevania games. ChoiceStriker
Frankly, I'm a little bit worried about this one. I think it looks a bit too much like Devil May Cry, which I didn't really enjoy as much as other people seemed to. I've been waiting for another great Castlevania game since Symphony of the Night, but I'm not sure how well Castlevania will translate to 3-D (I never played Castlevania on N64, but I haven't heard good things about it). Anyone else have any opinions on C:LoI?
