PSP Screen Protector w/ least effect on image quality

I just got a 2-pack of Pelican anti-glare screen protectors and they're really making the screen look washed out (and the home screen looks downright terrible), I think because of the anti-glare film on it.

Anyone know of a screen protector other than the Pelican that won't affect the image so much? I'm gonna keep using it till I find another viable solution.

My best friend always keeps his PSP in the provided case without screen protection and he's already got a few abrasions on it... so there's no way in heck I'm going ANYWHERE without one ;)

I'd recommend the Boxwave ClearTouch Crystal screen protectors. They have been making the best PDA screen protectors for years. Far superior to what I've found available in stores. Here's a link to their PSP version: [url']http://www.boxwave.com/products/cleartouchcrystal/cleartouch-crystal-screen-protector-sony-playstation-portable-psp_556.htm[/url]

Thanks for that link Camp! My friend uses these with his Palm, and I didn't know they made a PSP version. These things really are quality.

  • 2 weeks later...

I picked up a PSP on release day and brought it to work. A few people asked tot ake a look at it and were rubbing their fingers all over the screen  . The first thing I did on my way home that night was pick up a Pelican screen guard. I had one black spot (which may actually have gone away) but after applying the protector it wasn't noticeable. I guess I get what has been said about the washed out graphics...I might see about getting a Hori.

Well, I had been debating which screen protector to purchase. Last night I noticed a very small scratch where the d-pad meets the screen. It's only noticeable if I hold it a certain way and look hard, but the fact that it has happened made me realize I need a screen protector ASAP. I went ahead and ordered the boxware that was recommended in this thread. It was the most expensive but also seemed to be the best. At $15 with shipping it's a small price to pay to protect that beautiful screen. Can't wait to get it because I'm not playing my PSP again until it's installed... and I had just played Lumines for the first time! :(

Saw this site over at the IGN forums. They have a few PSP products worth looking at. First here is the full site:

They also have a clear screen protector here:

This one also intrigues me as it looks like like an inclusive protective unit that may be worth getting (though it's pricey)from Boxwave for the simply reason of not having to worry about fingerprints anymore ;) :

I wonder if they will make that in any different colors, because that one is ugly looking.

Different colors would be nice for the aesthetic purposes but I have to agree with Camp as far as the transparent case is concerned. I think it looks rather stylish in just pure white.

I'm considering ordering that one. I like that idea much better than covering the entire unit. I would, however, prefer to read someone else's opinion on it first.

Yes' date=' transparent is such an ugly color.

Actually, I think one of the PSP's strong points is that the screen is framed in black. They should have made the skin in black. I bought a black skin like that one for my iPod photo for the same reason, a black frame around the LCD makes the image stand out.

I'll be curious to hear if it changes the feel of the buttons/d-pad much.

Actually, I didn't know what he was refering to. The post he was responding to included two separate products. The bulk of the post was about the totally transparent screen protectors not the ugly translucent PSP cover/case thing.

I was simply being a dork and making a comment (however obscure) about Rudy's original post being ambiguous. And now I'm explaining the joke which means it utterly failed. :thud

Recieved the skin yesterday gents and have it installed. I played some last night and thus far here are my thoughts:

-The skin is indeed quite flexible and easily contorted if you need to move it around some or make adjustments. It easily fits onto the PSP and the "rubbery" surface helps in gripping the handheld. It just feels more solid all and less "slippery" then the PSP usually does.

-It adds some decent "outer" bulk to the PSP instilling some confidence that if you happen to drop the system on the floor, it would not smash to pieces.

-The skin partially blocks the bottom of the UMD drive bay on purpose. This stops the discs from popping straight out and possibly flying out onto the floor. It allows the door to open and close just enough for insertion and removal of the game/movie discs but still allows you to open it further if necessary due to it's flexibility.

-Out of the box, the thing smells (strongly) like stored plastic. It is washable and I highly recommend giving it a good scrub and letting it dry before installing it on the PSP. This may seem minor to some but I'm very sensitive to strong smells in general and it would bother me over time. ;)

-There is plenty of space for analog nub movement as well memory card removal/insertion. Though you unfortunately have to take the skin off to open up the battery casing.

-The button covers are pretty ho-hum. The ones on the bottom of the screen work perfectly. However the cover for the D-Pad, face buttons, and the shoulder buttons are problematic. It makes it quite difficult to get button presses in properly or directional inputs done since the skin cover feels overly "rubbery". I may need to give it more time but I'm more than likely going to be doing some post-puchase modification with a heated x-acto knife and cut the buttons/D-pad sections out to my liking. The flexiskin can be modified quite easily in this fashion due yet again to the materials flexibility.

The Flexiskin is a decent product that happens to make a great protective cover in case of accidental dropping or if you just have an utter distaste for fingerprints all over the damn thing (which I do!). It doesn't excel in keeping the handhelds functionality intact when actually playing games unfortunately. To be fair, the button/D-pad issues can be worked out pretty easily with some skillful cutting but I shouldn't have to do that for twenty-four bucks. I'll have to see how things work out post-mod. I think I'll be quite happy with it then.
