Guest Bryan
I was in Best Buy this afternoon and saw the Rogue Squadron III demo disc with the original Star Wars arcade game. Picked it up alone for $5 and will try to spin it soon to give some impressions.
Mark E
Oooooh, I am jealous!!! I can guarantee we aren't gonna be able to find that up here .
adamsappel
I went to a crazy game store today to see if my Rebel Strike bonus disk had come in. The clerk was so confused and flustered by my request that he ended up giving me the store's GameCube demo disk, so I've got demos of FZeroGX, 1080 Avalanche, Soul Calibur II, Rebel Strike, Viewtiful Joe, Wallice and Gromit and Billy Hatcher. Wahoo!
heavy liquid
Awww.. I forgot about this! I'll have to go there tomorrow. One of my friends was just telling me today how his mom sold his Star Wars game, along with his Atari 5200 at a garage sale. He's still mad. Calvin
The demo disc is great! I spent over an hour playing the Atari Star Wars game. A must buy!
heavy liquid
Hey Bryan or Calvin, how is it packaged, btw? Is it in a GC case? Or a sleeve?
dogbert
GCN case, with a "proper" sleeve etc. Got it sitting here & no GC to play it on until tomorrow...
HoolieMan
Just to clarify, you can buy this for $5 at Best Buy without having to pre-order Rogue Squadron III?
heavy liquid
That's what it seems like, but I'm not sure. I just got back from Best Buy, but they didn't have it. It would just be sitting on the shelf with the other games, right? I'll have to go to another BB after work. Or maybe Gamestop. Gotta find this! Yes. The game box has a small note saying "Not for resale" or something similar, but I saw a big stack of them with a $5 price tag. No mention about ordering RSIII. Beer Monkey
Checked Best Buy here in the middle of last week, no discs and clueless blueshirt. Any other affordable outlets available?
Orpheus
I got mine for preordering Rogue Squadron 3 from Gamestop.
Angry the Clown
Any thoughts on the demo? What' playable? Daniel
Maxuri
The demo disk has the Arcade game which was a great flashback to my childhood and the hoth level from RS3, which is very cool. It is the same demo that the local EB has had for awhile. Rich
merlot
Some thoughts/description of the demo. The graphics, as one would expect, are improved. This is quite a feat since the first game looked spectacular. The sound remains the same... phenominal. The control on foot is pretty simple, with no camera control. Hopefully they have more features in the full version. The ship based missions are much the same. The demo starts with some scenes from The Empire Strikes Back. The clips looked fantastic! Not sure how they'd look on a high end set, but they looked as good as most DVD's on my 32" WEGA (480i). After seeing the clip of Luke's Snowspeeder crash, and grabbing his Lightsaber before the AT-AT crushes, the game starts with the foot based mission. You must run under the AT-AT, use your grabbling hook, break open the AT-AT with your 'Saber, then throw a bomb inside. It was farely easy to do. You have one more to take down, then you must battle some SnowTroopers on the ground. Then you reach the Tauntauns. Hitch a ride and shoot some more bad guys. The control here is sloppy, but I think it's done purposely for realism... not sure. You'll arrive at a mounted laser gun. After wipping out the 'Troopers, man the gun and shoot some Tie Fighters down, then you have 3 AT-ST's to contend with. Finally, your greeted with more Empire clip goodness and your off in your X-Wing to protect troop transports. There is a HUGE number of Tie's to deal with... fighters, interceptors, and bombers. You need to concentrate on the bombers since they are after the troop ships. Something new I noticed is the camera will pull back when you have a Tie on your 6. Lock your airfoils and run After knocking out the bombers your done. Pretty short level, but was enjoyable. Ok, now I'm done with my essay. It's Friday & I'm bored
The Daisy
I still can't find the demo disk around here. I'm anxious to try it out, but no luck thus far. Glen

It has been a long time since I played though. Although I did fire it up a month or two ago and try to get at least one gold in one mission... no go
Josh
So after karate last night one of the guys I spar with goes, "Oh, I gotta show you something." "Um, okay..." I think cautiously, as we were in the locker room changing. He pulls out a green Gamecube. "Know what this is?" "Sure, it's a testing unit." "Right." He then pulls something else out. It's a little 3" DVD-R. Written on the front in Sharpie is "Rogue Leader." Yes. He has the full review version. Fucker. (The background is that his friend writes for the New York Times and gets all sorts of schwag from the manufacturers and publishers)

Josh
So here are his initial impressions: just played the first few levels so far. it's very annoying to play a buggy beta that keeps crashing at certain points, but I guess I shouldn't complain. the graphics are really impressive. the lighting is easily the best I've ever seen in a game. the missions are fun, though the first couple seemed really short and a little contrived in how they went from flying to on-foot parts. but who can complain with a game that lets you right a speeder bike in first-person view over water in the middle of a lightning storm? MrJames
Damn, I forgot about this. Figured the demo would be released with the game in early November. Off to Best Buy I go.
Mark E
Interesting tidbit from IGN today about these games. Apparently the RS3 disc is going to include not only the original Star Wars title, but a playable version of Empire Strikes Back as well, plus a potential 3rd arcade title that Factor 5 wouldn't give up the goods on. Neat thing is the way you select the games to play, as they're set up in a hub room of some kinda that is "amazingly detailed" apparently. Apparently you get to move Darth Vader around the area and he can walk up to recreations of the arcade cabinets and start the games up. :green:

Would it be monumentally naive of me to guess its the Return Of The Jedi game? Its hardly going to be Star Wars Arcade, as both that and the Pod Racing game are far too recent to make for a simple port. Not that I'd exactly complain if they did... Mark E
Yeah, that was my guess too Iain, but why would F5 pussyfoot around that option when it's SUCH an obvious choice? I mean, wouldn't they just outright go, 'yeah, and Jedi's in there too'. Then again, misdirection and all that. Star Wars Arcade is seriously unlikely since it's a Sega title. What other possible Star Wars titles are there? Ha, I hope it's Discs of Tron . How did people find the flight controls on the demo? I never played RS2 but I'm a fairly big space sim junkie (Freespace 2, Wing Commanders, etc) so I would like to know if this ought to be on my 'far future purchases' list .
