Some Fun with Lamborghini's and Ferrari's

Well that was extremely painful to watch. How the heck do 2 nuckleheads like that get access to hot cars like those? I felt bad for those cars.

No kidding. I've seen this posted before and I've never made it past the 1 minute mark. It is boring as hell and yeah, downright painful to watch.

WOW

Some dam good speed there....

but why the "check engine" light??

Means that they're shifting / downshifting / NOT downshifting when they should be. This typically comes on with a massive oil pressure drop or gain due, in this case, to driver ineptitude.

What?! :eh

A CE light could be anything: bad fuel mix, gas cap not screwed on tight enough, bad circuits, 02 sensors, the list is endless.

It doesn't mean they're shifting incorrectly. I don't even know what you meant.

Ok, so let's say they're not downshifting when they should be. So they're lugging the engine (gear too high for road speed). If they're lugging it, and the rpms drop down enough, the engine will stall. Big deal. And the way those guys were driving (i.e. fast), the rpms will be right up there. It's no fun to lug the engine. Even if they were presumably inept, they wouldn't be doing it.

Ok, the other senario: they're not upshifting when they should be. Case 1 is when accelerating. Almost all modern cars (and certainly a Lambo Mucie) has a rev-limiter. If you keep accelerating and don't upshift, you bump against it, and the car throttles you back. If you've ever done this yourself, it's like a sudden loss of acceleration. Some cars do it softly, on others, it's like hitting a brick wall. Your rpms drop, and then all is normal. This way, you can't damage the engine by exceeding the operating specifications. Again, no CE light.

Case 2 is when decelerating. You downshift too early, and this time, your Rev-limiter won't save you. Your rpms will pass the redline, it WILL definitely feel like hitting a brick wall, your tyres will lock, and your engine is very likely fucked along with possibly the gearbox. Could be extensive damage, depending on how badly you did it. This is nasty stuff. I guess the CE light might come on. If you're on an electronically controlled sequential manual, the computer won't let you press the downshift button if this will result. They weren't, they were just using a regular manual.

So while their ineptitude might have caused the CE light and even then, only one of those cases might do it, it could've been just about anything. Try tightening the gas cap.
