JFo
Now, this is a sequel I can get excited about! As for the challenges in the game itself, fans should be happy to hear that the same bizarre sense of humor is still intact. There is a bi-plane fight with Sly shooting down enemies, there's an opera singing contest, and there's even a drinking contest. Of course, they're drinking lemonade because this is a game for all ages. There will even be missions where the control will change from character to character within the mission. After the trio wins the lemonade contest a fight breaks out and in the process the control shifts between all three characters. Fans of the original game will be happy to know that the Master Thief challenges are back. After completing a job in the story mode of the game, players can go back and redo any of them all over again with new goals to complete. In the rest of the game there will also be a richer economy. For those who were disappointed at the replay value of Sly 2 all the good stuff is right back in here to redo the best parts. Very cool to hear the Sucker Punch is building on last year's excellent Sly 2. It was one of my top five favorite games of last year, and for me stood out as the best of the big three Sony platformers. It will be very tough for them to top the wall-to-wall genius of that game, but it should still be a lot of fun regardless. Although, I have to admit it's sad to see Bentley in a wheelchair though. I suppose that won't matter much when I'm using the chair's jet pack to escape a nasty situation.
dogbert
Sucker Punch are an awesome developer who really seem to be incapable of doing wrong.
Romier S
I still haven't picked up Sly 2 (I know I know, for shame!) but it's great to hear they are continuing the series. I loved the original Sly game despite it's short length. I followed the thoughts of those who played Sly 2 on the forum but its just droppped of the radar. This news may be enough to make me pick it up tommorrow.
Mark E
This news may be enough to make me pick it up tommorrow. Do it, man, do it! Sly 2 is fantastic and THE reason I'd ever want to get a PS2. (Pick up the new Freedom Force while you're out, yeah? )
JFo
According to IGN, Sly 3 will make use of stereoscopic glasses to create a "true" 3D look: The immediate effect of a game in 3D is obvious. It looks cool to see a game pop off the screen and with the style of the Sly Cooper games already being cartoonish, this is an easy fit. But it also won't be something that will overwhelm the game either. Sly 3 will feature specific missions that are designed for the 3D glasses that will come with the game. These glasses will help players get a cool view as Sly navigates through invisible lasers, decrypts puzzles, and uses his power-ups. As the game gets closer to completion, more missions and mini-games will have the 3D option designed for them.
Sherbz
According to IGN, Sly 3[/i'] will make use of stereoscopic glasses to create a "true" 3D look: I'd say that sounds awfully gimmicky, but this is Sucker Punch and I've learned to trust them. So now I'm curious as to how exactly they will pull this off.
Josh
There was some game in the 90s for the PlayStation that came with 3D glasses. I can't remember exactly what it was, but I think it was Contra or a Contra knock-off. Gave me a headache.
Angry the Clown
I still need to get Sly 2 as well... It's fairly cheap here, but I've just blown a good deal on cheap games this week so it may have to wait a while. Daniel
JFo
IGN has their review of Sly 3 up. In short, it's good, but not quite as good as Sly 2 was. Here's a bit of what they had to say: But one of the most disappointing aspects is that there's not too much difficulty in the challenges here. As a whole, this adventure is aimed at a bit of a younger audience that might want a bit less of a challenge. To provide some replay value the Master Thief challenges have returned but even these are mostly a cakewalk and repeat challenges in the game itself. The time limits and stronger attacks make for a few retries, but not that many. In just a couple hours I had knocked off the challenges and acquired the 100% for the right to brag. On the positive, it sounds as if the game has been streamlined a bit, so there's not quite as much roaming around the open-ended levels. Nevertheless, I'm really looking forward to finally playing this sometime next week.
Tom
Picked this up yesterday. I'm only an hour or so in, but so far it is quite good. So far it feels nearly identical to Sly 2 with a few extra bells and whistles, and excellent recap of the gameplay on the fly, and what appears to be a most excellent story shaping up. I can't wait to get somebody over to play the coop modes in it either. Once I dig into the game deeper, I'm sure I'll have something more substantial to say. Right now my percentage complete sits at 2%.
Josh
Thanks. Loved the first two and will be picking this up without a doubt. Eventually.
stillfastasleep
Those 3D glasses aren't much fun. They heavily desaturate the lovely colors in the game, and after taking them off, I had to let my eyes adjust for a minute or two.
JFo
I finished this game on Sunday including completing all of the Master Thief challenges. In short, very fun game. In fact I was somewhat pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. I expected the shorter development time to hinder the quality of the title somewhat, but that wasn't the case for me. I hope to have a full review of the game posted later this week, no later than Friday. I'll elaborate on my thoughts then.
Tom
Just finished this tonight after setting Mario Kart DS and City of Villains aside for a day or so. Excellent game, probably put a good 14-15 hours of gameplay (not including Master Thief challenges) into it. Good story, and excellent additions to the gameplay well maintaining the games look and feel. I was surprised the squeezed this much game into such a short development cycle. If you have not played this game, or any of it's 2 prior in the series, you truly are missing out on something great. Some of the best gaming I have had on the PS2, or any console for that matter, is because of these guys at Sucker Punch.
