ChoiceStriker
As I mentioned in the Live Final Fantasy Concert Tour thread, I'll be spending this summer in Japan. I've been awarded a fellowship to study at Waseda University in Shinjuku for six weeks in an intensive Japanese-language program. Hopefully this will be the experience that finally propels my language skills beyond an intermediate-high level, and I'm thrilled about living in Tokyo for the summer. Of course, living amidst a treasure trove of all things video games, I'm sure I'm going to drop a sizable chunk of change on all sorts of gaming goodness. But I want to share the love. If any of you, my fellow LCVGers, has a request for something you would like me to try to track down for you in my time there, please let me know. I'll be more than happy to go on a scavenger hunt (provided the item in question won't get me into legal trouble). It can be gaming or non-gaming related - I'm here to help. If you have anything in mind, you can post a request here or PM me. I'll be leaving June 23rd and returning August 22nd. I may ship some items back, so if you want something in a hurry, you might consider combining requests with another member to split the shipping costs. I'll most likely have my laptop with me, so I'll probably still pop in to post here and to e-mail. So June 23rd isn't a deadline if you think of something later. Take care, Eric
Robot Monkey
That's very kind of you. It's also very insane of you to make that offer here, of all places. I have nothing on my list, although I envy your trip. Travel safe and have fun! Make sure to share your pictures; I know I'd love to see them. -j

ChoiceStriker
Thanks Jay! Yes, I'll definitely be sure to take lots of pictures. I'm contemplating getting a cheap used Japanese PS2 for myself so I can play things like Okami... I wish there was a firm release date on that one.\ Joey: Sure thing - let me know! General Zot
Eric, I love this kind of stuff. If you see anything really cool on your explorations, let us know. I'm not looking for anything in particular right now, but I'm sure there are oceans of cool/unusual swag over there that many of us are totally unaware of. I'd be more than happy to paypal you some cash for some goodies (with some sake money thrown in) if you make any neato-geeko discoveries. -J
ChoiceStriker
If you see anything really cool on your explorations, let us know. You know, you're right - I hadn't really looked at it that way, but I'm sure I'll stumble upon some things that I think the crowd here might enjoy. If I see something that is just too cool to pass up, I'll be sure to keep you guys posted.

Graeme
We have a store dedicated to Pocky here.
Josh
What? You can't get Pocky in NYC? There's a shit-ton here. But if I do remember correctly from my one trip to Tokyo, there are unavailable flavors there - none I would take part in, as I'm a chocolate Pocky purist, but they exist. I'll take the most random thing you can find in a vending machine for $5. That should be interesting.
iainl
I'm tempted to say Gachapon Sega Dreamcasts, but then you'd still need to ship them to the UK, so it's fairly pointless...
Calvin
In all honesty, there are two things that I would really,REALLY, like. But both are non-videogame related (well 3 actually, but I don't see getting the 3rd one at retail). They are some of Bandal's Soul Of Chogokin Robots, you can see some found here I would love any of the Getter Robo G series, but most especially Getter Liger - The other two being Getter Dragon & Getter Poseidon. These were released last year & are hard to find here in the US. However, the newest one is about to hit the market, one of my faves - Gaiking! Here are links to bigger pics: Getter Liger Gaiking Please contact me if you have any questions
ChoiceStriker
Josh: I'll be sure to let you know when I come across something truly bizarre in one of the machines - how about some used panties? I kid, I kid. Iain: I'm sure we could figure something out - I'll keep my eyes out for them. Cal: My girlfriend is a Japanese toy nut (especially Ultraman kaiju), so I'm sure I'll be heading to some places that might have the figures you're looking for. I will definitely let you know if I see them.

iainl
Iain: I'm sure we could figure something out - I'll keep my eyes out for them. It's not serious; don't worry. I'll dig out some pics for you from somewhere, though - they're seriously cool little mini plastic Sega consoles they did last year; everything from the Model III to the Dreamcast! secretvampire
Any country that has beer vending machines is light years ahead of the rest of civilization. Man, I can't wait until my wife and I save up enough money to go. Hopefully by then, my Japanese will be advanced enough to have some meaningful conversations with the locals. I'm working on it anyway.

Went to the Tsukiji fish market and Ginza yesterday Hey, that's awesome! Can you tell us what the fish market was like? ChoiceStriker
Hi guys - We went to Akihabara yesterday and checked out all the game shops - truly incredible. You can find just about anything you're looking for that's game-related there. Speaking of which, Iain, I have two Dreamcast Gachapon in hand for you! I promise I'll write a little more in a bit and post a few pictures for you guys. Take care! Eric
