Eldorado
I am currently running a 2.4Ghz Pentium on a board(Iwill P4R533N) with 533Mhz FSB and no Hyper-Threading support. Can I slap a 3.2Ghz that runs at 800Mhz and has HT support in there? I'm not expecting HT support, of course, but would like a faster processor. This is the processor in question: http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116165 thanks, Sean
Chris F
It's all dependant on what procs your mobo will support. If you go to the website of the company that made your mobo there will probably be a lsiting there of compatible CPUs with your mobo. kelley
With a board name like P4R533N I doubt it. Sounds like the board was ment to run the 533Mhz chips only. I'd say hold onto the 2.4Ghz for a few more months and then do a full upgrade to a PCI-Express based system.
Eldorado
Well, that would be the idea. As the next step up(@533) is only 2.8 and for $150, that's hardly worth it. But I didn't know if there could be backwards compatibility. Sean
